The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience.
Context
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. Its mission is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger by saving lives and changing lives.
Access to climate services and early warnings enables people most at risk to make better-informed decisions about the use of household resources before, during and after climate shocks. WFP supports the Early Warnings for All initiative through its global operational reach and expertise in climate services, integrated climate-risk management and anticipatory action.
Climate extremes are a key driver of food insecurity in Tanzania. The climate crisis compounds other drivers of food insecurity, including conflict and economic shocks. To address these intersecting challenges, disaster-risk-management and humanitarian-response systems need to move from crisis response towards forward-looking risk management closely connected to climate science and climate services.
To support WFP’s engagement with government counterparts and partners in institutionalizing Anticipatory Action and strengthening national climate and disaster-risk-management systems, the Tanzania Country Office is seeking to deploy a Community UN Volunteer. The post will support operational roll-out and readiness activities under Anticipatory Action in the targeted districts.
