Mō te tūnga | About the role

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join Ara Poutama Aotearoa/The Department of Corrections as a Community Work Supervisor at our West Coast Community Corrections Sites.

We are all about changing lives and creating pathways through meaningful Community Work projects.  As a Community Work Supervisor, you will oversee and manage people serving community work sentences while they work on meaningful projects at schools, reserves, community groups, marae, and churches - whatever the community needs.

Our Community Work Supervisors are responsible for the supervision of work parties, planning and organising projects, the development of work skills through pro-social modelling and coaching, ensuring records are accurate and complete, reviewing health and safety requirements, and ensuring the smooth operation of the community work centre.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop a career and to make a difference. Community work provides a platform for people serving community work sentences to gain new skills while giving back to community at the same time. To learn more about the role you can visit our careers page here: https://careers.corrections.govt.nz/roles/community-work-supervisor/.

This is a part-time, permanent position within our Canterbury team, with the possibility of working 1-4 days per week. Saturday work is essential.

We are interested in hearing from people who:

  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and inspire others.
  • Have the ability to solve problems and work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Are fresh critical thinkers, using curiosity and imagination to generate new ideas.
  • Can operate effectively in a culturally diverse setting and have an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Are positive role models with a firm-but-fair management style.
  • Can operate with high levels of integrity and demonstrate departmental values.
  • Have a full NZ drivers licence

Please note you will be required to complete a criminal history check during the later stages of the recruitment process.
