Company Accountant

Our client is a well established commercial shopfitting and interior fitout company based in Albany. They work with businesses across New Zealand, delivering complete fit-out solutions for retail, hospitality, commercial and other environments.

With projects moving through the business at pace, they are looking for an experienced Company Accountant to join the team on a 3 month contract and provide hands on support across the finance function.

This is a great opportunity for an accountant who enjoys working in a busy, project based environment and understands that in a business like this, the numbers need to keep up with the projects.

About the role Reporting into the business leadership team, you will take ownership of the day to day accounting function and provide accurate and timely financial information to support the business.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Full end to end accounting
• Month end processes and management reporting
• Bank and balance sheet reconciliations
• Accounts payable and accounts receivable - with some support
• GST and other statutory requirements
• Cashflow management and forecasting
• Job and project costing
• Monitoring project profitability and margins
• WIP and work in progress reporting
• Supporting budgeting and forecasting
• Reviewing financial performance across projects
• Assisting with financial controls and process improvements
• Providing commercial insight to the leadership team
• General accounting support as required

About you We're looking for someone who can hit the ground running and is comfortable taking ownership of the finance function.

You'll ideally have:

• Proven experience as a Company Accountant or Senior Accountant
• Experience working within a project based, construction, manufacturing, shopfitting or similar environment
• Strong understanding of job costing, WIP and project accounting
• Excellent attention to detail
• Strong Excel skills and experience with MYOB and Assendo is a bonus
• The ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
• A practical and commercial approach to accounting
• Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work directly with business owners and operational teams
