Collins is an ENR Top 500 Design Firm. We have opportunities for you.

Collins Engineers, Inc. is seeking a self-motivatedComplex Bridge Design Specialistto be an integral part of our team in Denver, Colorado; Salt Lake City, Utah; OR Chicago, IL. This role will be responsible for leading and managing the bridge designs for a variety of infrastructure projects throughout the Western United States. We are looking for experience with plan, specification, and estimate packages as well as load rating experience. Your expertise will be essential in solving technical problems, mentoring junior staff, and stewarding solutions through the delivery process. If you are a passionate, experienced bridge engineer looking for an opportunity to make a significant impact, we encourage you to apply for this role at Collins. Join our team and help us shape the future of bridge design and construction.

This is not your typical structural engineering assignment. We are seeking an engineer to join a once-in-a-career project involving the inspection, modeling, and structural analysis of a landmark suspension bridge supporting a natural gas pipeline crossing the Colorado River that delivers approximately 25% of  between Southern California and Arizona's natural gas supply. The project will require advanced structural modeling and evaluation of existing and future loading scenarios. You will help assess the feasibility of adding inspection access walkways and additional pipeline capacity to a critical piece of energy infrastructure. If you are looking for a technically challenging project with real-world impact and the opportunity to work on a structure few engineers will ever encounter, this role is for you.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate, lead, and review designs for a variety of bridge replacement and rehabilitation projects, assuming responsibility for design plans and calculations.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, promoting a culture of continuous learning and development.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team. Must have good communication skills and a solutions-based approach.
  • Oversee the planning, scheduling, and execution of bridge design projects, from concept to construction, while ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their needs, provide design recommendations, and address any concerns or questions throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Supervise staff as necessary to complete assignments.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering; master’s degree preferred.
  • Professional engineer (P.E.) license is required; structural engineer (S.E.) certification preferred.
  • At least 10+ years of experience in bridge design, including 2 years at the Project Manager/EOR level.
  • Experience working with DOTs and/or municipalities.
  • Proven experience with AASHTO LRFD bridge design and DOT design guidelines.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard structural analysis and bridge design software.
  • Demonstrated success in managing preliminary and final design, preparation of construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates, as well as project scheduling and subcontractor management.

Physical Demands:

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee frequently is required to talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
