Night Care Assistant – Complex Care

IK Care | Bedfordshire | Female applicants only

About the Role

We are looking for a compassionate, reliable and emotionally resilient female Night Care Assistant to join our small, dedicated team supporting a 17-year-old young woman with profound physical and neurological disabilities in her own adapted home.

Ivy has complex medical needs, including epilepsy, respiratory difficulties and dystonia. Her health has deteriorated recently, and her care can be particularly demanding, both physically and emotionally.

We believe it is important to be open about this from the outset. There will be nights when Ivy is comfortable and settled, but also periods when she is unwell, distressed or struggling. We need someone who can remain calm, compassionate and dependable during these more challenging times.

Night shifts are worked alongside another carer, with comprehensive training and supervised induction provided before independent responsibilities are introduced.

Main Responsibilities

  • Supporting Ivy with personal care, dignity and comfort throughout the night.
  • Assisting with repositioning, mobility and safe transfers.
  • Monitoring her presentation, breathing, seizures and general wellbeing.
  • Responding appropriately to changes in her condition, following established care plans and training.
  • Supporting medication and respiratory care once appropriately trained and assessed as competent.
  • Maintaining accurate care records and providing clear handovers.
  • Working closely with the other night carer, family and wider care team.

Essential Qualities

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Emotionally resilient, with the ability to remain calm during difficult or distressing situations.
  • Compassionate, patient and genuinely committed to providing excellent care.
  • Reliable, punctual and able to maintain consistent attendance.
  • Confident working as part of a small, close-knit team.
  • Observant, attentive and willing to follow detailed care plans.
  • Comfortable supporting someone with significant physical disabilities and complex medical needs.
  • Respectful of confidentiality, dignity and professional boundaries.

Experience and Training

Previous experience in complex care, epilepsy, respiratory support, palliative care or working with individuals with profound disabilities would be particularly valuable.

However, previous complex-care experience is not essential for the right person with the appropriate attitude, emotional resilience and willingness to learn.

Full induction, supervised shadow shifts and role-specific training will be provided. Responsibilities will be introduced progressively, with competency assessments before undertaking specialist care tasks.

Working Arrangements

This vacancy is exclusively for night shifts, including weekends and bank holidays according to the agreed rota.

We are seeking someone who can offer consistency, reliability and a commitment of at least 12 months, ideally longer.

Competitive hourly pay is offered, with progression recognising experience, competence and continued commitment.

To Apply

Please send a short message outlining your relevant experience, availability for night shifts and why this particular role appeals to you.

Due to the intimate personal care involved, this position is advertised for female applicants only, on the basis of an occupational requirement under the Equality Act 2010.
