Do you want to make a difference?

We are seeking a dynamic and problem solving person to join our Homeless Team in the Housing Options Service. This is a varied role working with vulnerable clients with complex needs in the community supporting them in resolving their homelessness and sustain a tenancy once accommodation is secured.

About the role and the team

The role sits within the Homelessness Team, working alongside another Complex Support Worker. You will respond to enquiries from customers, councillors and residents regarding homelessness and rough sleeping across the district.

We are looking for someone who can communicate confidently and compassionately with people facing complex housing issues, including mental health and substance misuse challenges. You will assess situations quickly, identify appropriate support and help customers take the next steps to resolve their homelessness.

Using your strong interpersonal skills, you will build positive and trusting relationships with customers, providing advice, support and encouragement throughout their homelessness or rough sleeping journey.

Previous homelessness experience is not essential. We are seeking a positive, motivated and resilient individual who can provide practical and reassuring support to vulnerable customers.

A key part of the role involves engaging with reported or suspected rough sleepers, gathering and recording relevant information, and working closely with the Homelessness Team, landlords and partner agencies to achieve positive housing outcomes wherever possible.

About you

If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy tackling challenging situations and take satisfaction in achieving positive outcomes for customers, this could be the role for you.

The role requires the ability to manage competing priorities, make sound decisions and remain organised under pressure.

We are looking for someone with the passion and commitment to support people with complex needs, helping them overcome barriers to housing and stability. You will be proactive and solutions-focused, using your initiative to resolve problems and working collaboratively with partner agencies to achieve the best possible outcomes for our customers.

What’s in it for you?

As part of our commitment to being a supportive and people‑centred employer, we offer a range of benefits designed to help you thrive both in and outside of work:

  • £32,190 – £35,797 per annum
  • 24-26 days plus bank holidays, rising by an additional week’s leave after 5 years of continuous local authority service (days leave are given on our current Payscales)
  • Hybrid working, with flexibility across our sites, and home working
  • Local Government Pension Scheme, with the option of Additional Voluntary Contributions (AVCs)
  • Employee Assistance Programme offering free 24/7 legal, financial, and personal wellbeing advice
  • Employee discount scheme with savings across major supermarkets, retailers, restaurants, and leisure providers
  • Cycle to Work Scheme, helping you save around 40 percent on bikes and accessories
  • A values‑led organisation, guided by our LEAF values (Learning, Empathy, Ambition, Fairness)
  • Access to learning and development opportunities to support your growth
  • A supportive, inclusive culture, where everyone is welcomed and valued

We are proud to be a Disability Confident Employer and offer a range of active staff networks, including:

  • Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Group

This transition is currently paused following a recent government announcement, but it is important that applicants understand how this may affect their employment should they be successful. You will find attached a useful LGR update sheet at top of this advert.
