Compliance Associate – Confidential Search

Location: Boston, MA

The Firm

Our client is a well-established, growth-focused private equity firm that partners with founders and management teams to help middle-market businesses scale. Over more than two decades, the firm has built a multi-billion-dollar investment platform and a portfolio spanning technology, healthcare, financial services, business services and consumer companies. It operates from offices in the U.S. and Europe and is regularly recognized among the top-performing managers in its segment.

The Opportunity

The firm is seeking a Compliance Associate to join its Boston-based compliance team. Reporting to the Compliance Manager, the Associate will help run the compliance program day to day, with primary ownership of the Code of Ethics process. The scope of the role will broaden across the wider program as the individual gets up to speed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Code of Ethics: Own the Code of Ethics program end to end: manage the employee compliance platform, handle compliance onboarding for new hires, run periodic attestations and certifications, monitor personal trading activity against policy, and keep the restricted and watch lists current.
  • Pre-Clearance and Conflicts: Review and log employee pre-clearance requests and conflict-of-interest disclosures, maintaining complete and accurate records.
  • Expert Networks: Help monitor deal teams' use of expert networks and support the related compliance controls.
  • Quarterly Compliance Review: Lead the quarterly operational compliance review: collect documentation from across the business, assess it against internal policy and regulatory requirements, retain records and produce the quarterly report. Keep the compliance calendar and related trackers up to date.
  • Communications and Marketing: Support reviews of electronic communications and marketing materials, and help respond to investor due diligence questionnaires.
  • Anti-Money Laundering: Support execution of the firm's AML procedures.
  • Compliance Culture: Serve as a go-to resource for colleagues on Code of Ethics questions and help reinforce a firm-wide commitment to integrity.

Growth Areas

Over time, the Associate will gain exposure to:

  • Advising investment professionals and senior leadership on regulatory developments and compliance risk
  • Preparing regulatory filings and supporting regulatory examinations and inquiries
  • Periodic policy reviews, risk assessments and compliance testing
  • Designing and delivering compliance training
  • Surveillance and monitoring programs, plus support on investigations and remediation
  • Background checks, vendor diligence and review of third-party contracts
  • Assessing internal controls and following through on audit and testing findings
  • Investor-related matters such as fund documents, side letters and fundraising questions

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business, law or a related discipline
  • Two to three years in a compliance, legal or regulatory role within financial services; a background in private equity, asset management or compliance consulting is required
  • Practical understanding of the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, including Code of Ethics rules, and of AML and sanctions obligations for private fund advisers
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, comfortable managing recurring processes and competing deadlines
  • Sound judgment and analytical ability, with a clear sense of when to escalate
  • Strong communicator who works effectively with internal teams and outside parties
  • Proactive and collaborative, eager to take on a broader remit over time
  • CRCM, CCEP or comparable credentials are a plus
  • Familiarity with compliance technology platforms is preferred

Compensation and Benefits

Competitive compensation, a comprehensive benefits package with many offerings at little or no cost to employees, a collaborative team environment and clear room for career growth.
