About Distacart
Distacart is a global e-commerce platform that enables customers to access products from India and have them delivered internationally. As we operate across geographies, payment channels, logistics partners, sellers, and regulatory environments, compliance is an important part of building a trusted and scalable business.
Role Overview
We are looking for a Compliance Manager who will be responsible for managing and strengthening Distacart’s compliance framework across business operations.
The role will involve monitoring applicable regulatory requirements, identifying compliance risks, maintaining policies and documentation, coordinating with internal teams and external advisors, and ensuring that compliance requirements are effectively implemented across the organization.
The ideal candidate should be comfortable working in a fast-paced business environment, be detail-oriented, and have the ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical business processes.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory & Business Compliance
- Monitor applicable laws, regulations, and regulatory developments relevant to Distacart’s business.
- Ensure compliance across areas such as e-commerce, consumer protection, data privacy, payments, taxation, AML/KYC, and cross-border transactions, as applicable.
- Identify potential compliance gaps and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain a compliance calendar and ensure timely completion of regulatory obligations.
- Coordinate with external legal and compliance advisors where specialized guidance is required.
Policies & Processes
- Develop, review, and maintain compliance policies, SOPs, and internal controls.
- Establish practical compliance processes that can be implemented across business functions.
- Periodically review existing processes and recommend improvements.
- Maintain proper documentation and records for compliance activities.
Risk Management
- Conduct periodic compliance risk assessments.
- Identify emerging regulatory and operational risks and escalate them appropriately.
- Work with relevant teams to develop mitigation plans and track closure of compliance issues.
- Support internal and external audits, reviews, and regulatory inquiries.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Finance, HR, Operations, Product, Technology, Customer Support, Logistics, and Business teams to ensure compliance requirements are incorporated into day-to-day processes.
- Provide guidance to teams on compliance-related questions and requirements.
- Conduct awareness sessions and training for employees on relevant compliance topics.
Reporting & Governance
- Prepare periodic compliance reports and dashboards for senior management.
- Track compliance metrics, open issues, action items, and remediation plans.
- Maintain records of regulatory filings, licenses, approvals, contracts, and other compliance documentation.
- Support management in building a strong culture of compliance and accountability.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Commerce, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in compliance, regulatory affairs, risk, legal operations, or a similar role.
- Experience in e-commerce, fintech, payments, technology, retail, or a multinational environment will be an advantage.
- Good understanding of Indian regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Exposure to areas such as KYC/AML, data privacy, consumer protection, e-commerce regulations, taxation, and cross-border business is preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow through on compliance actions.
- Comfortable working with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.
What We’re Looking For
- Someone who is hands-on, rather than purely policy-oriented.
- Someone who can understand business requirements and provide practical compliance solutions.
- Strong ownership and follow-through.
- Ability to identify risks before they become problems.
- Good judgment and the confidence to raise compliance concerns when required.
- A proactive approach to keeping up with regulatory changes.
- Ability to work in a fast-moving startup/e-commerce environment.
Key Success Measures
Success in this role will be measured by:
- Timely completion of statutory and regulatory obligations.
- Reduction in compliance gaps and unresolved issues.
- Effective implementation of compliance policies and controls.
- Timely identification and mitigation of compliance risks.
- High-quality, accurate compliance documentation and reporting.
- Effective collaboration with business teams.
- Building a strong and practical compliance culture across the organization.
