Compliance Manager

Company Profile

A company with governance and compliance responsibilities spanning Japan and global operations is seeking a Principal Counsel/Specialist (Governance & Compliance) in Toyosu, Tokyo.

The Role

• Develop, manage and operate the group compliance framework, addressing Japanese and international regulatory requirements, including digital and AI matters.
• Plan and deliver compliance training, newsletters and internal communications.
• Handle internal whistleblowing reports, fraud investigations and information incidents.
• Maintain internal policies and regulations, and support audits and committees.
• Manage corporate governance activities, including affiliated company administration, shareholder meetings, internal approvals, registrations and company seals.
• Introduce and manage legal tech and IT/AI tools, and translate governance and compliance documents.

Your Skills

• At least 5 years of practical experience in legal, compliance and governance at a Japanese listed company, major foreign company, corporate law firm, consulting firm or similar organization.
• Native-level Japanese and business-level English are mandatory.
• A Japanese or overseas lawyer's qualification is advantageous.
• Knowledge and practical experience in IT, AI and legal tech are preferred.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills, with a proactive approach to new challenges in a global environment.
• Experience studying or working in an English-speaking country is advantageous.
