Staff Mechanical Component Engineer

South Windsor, Connecticut | Fully onsite | $130k–$160k

I’m recruiting a Staff Mechanical Component Engineer for a stationary fuel cell and hydrogen manufacturer in Connecticut.

The company is part of a large global engineering group , and builds its products at its South Windsor plant.

Its products include phosphoric acid fuel cell power plants and PEM water electrolysers . Customers include utilities, data centres, healthcare and manufacturing.

The role

You’ll join the Mechanical Balance of Plant (MBOP) team. The team selects and maintains the mechanical components inside the fuel cell and electrolyser systems.

Day to day, you’ll:

• Turn component requirements into specifications and take them to suppliers.
• Decide between COTS hardware and custom components , and work with suppliers to develop parts where needed.
• Specify skid-mounted and container-based assemblies covering full subsystems.
• Build component test rigs and run performance and accelerated durability tests.
• Lead root cause analysis on component issues found in the factory or the field.
• Track technical, cost and certification risk, and work with supply chain on cost reductions .
• Mentor others in the team.

What they’re looking for

• BS/MS in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering , or a related STEM discipline.
• 7–10+ years’ experience .
• Hands-on experience with heat exchangers .
• Experience with pumps, valves and instrumentation .
• Experience working directly with suppliers .
• Experience in a manufacturing or factory environment is preferred.
• A PE licence is preferred.
• Experience using AI tools for analysis or design work.

The package

$130k–$160k base . The role is fully onsite in South Windsor, CT.
