Comptroller

We are seeking a hands-on Financial Controller to lead the accounting and payroll functions of a high-volume, labor-intensive essential-services organization. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this position will be responsible for the integrity of financial information, the full accounting cycle, payroll execution, and the internal control environment.

This role requires a rigorous, accessible, and practical financial leader who will become deeply involved in operational details, resolve issues, and ensure that finance processes support the speed and complexity of a 24/7 service operation. This is an on-site position and requires an active leadership presence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Direct the full accounting cycle and ensure timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with US GAAP and company policies.
• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including close calendars, reconciliations, journal entries, variance analysis, and balance sheet account reviews.
• Own the entire payroll function, including processing, validation, controls, reconciliations, payroll taxes, deductions, benefits, and discrepancy resolution.
• Ensure payroll accuracy in a high-volume environment involving multiple shifts, schedules, differentials, overtime, and variable compensation.
• Design, strengthen, document, and monitor internal controls that mitigate financial, operational, fraud, and compliance risks.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, collections, fixed assets, accrual accounting, and cash management.
• Prepare and review management reports, profitability analyses, cash flow projections, working-capital reporting, and financial performance metrics.
• Coordinate external audits, internal reviews, tax requirements, and compliance requests, ensuring complete documentation and timely responses.
• Ensure compliance with applicable tax, labor, payroll, and regulatory obligations.
• Partner with Operations, Human Resources, and Technology to improve system integrations, master data, time and attendance controls, billing, and process efficiency.
• Evaluate and optimize financial systems, policies, and procedures while advancing automation and preserving control and traceability.
• Lead and develop the Accounting and Payroll teams, establishing clear priorities, service standards, accountability, and professional development plans.
• Support the CFO with special projects, ad hoc financial analysis, and time-sensitive business matters.

Qualifications :

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• CPA strongly preferred.
• Ten or more years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
• At least five years of experience as a Controller, Comptroller, Assistant Controller, or equivalent financial leader.
• Demonstrated experience leading end-to-end payroll in a high-volume organization with a substantial hourly workforce.
• Strong command of financial close, consolidations, reconciliations, internal controls, audits, and financial statement preparation.
• Solid knowledge of US GAAP and payroll-related tax and labor requirements.
• Puerto Rico accounting, payroll, tax, and regulatory experience is highly valued.
• Experience in labor-intensive services, 24/7 operations, multi-location businesses, or high-transaction environments is preferred.
• Advanced Excel capabilities and experience with ERP, payroll, and time and attendance systems.
• Professional fluency in English and Spanish.
• Ability to communicate effectively with operational employees, executives, auditors, and external advisors.
• Ability and willingness to work on-site and respond to business needs during critical periods.
