What they need
Hi-Tek Solutions is looking for a part-time Computer Repair Technician to join our team in Downey.
We’re looking for someone who already has real hands-on computer repair experience but still wants to learn and grow. You don’t need to know everything. What matters to us is that you have a good technical foundation, are dependable, communicate well, follow procedures, and take pride in doing things correctly.
This is an in person position at our repair shop**. It is not remote.**
What You’ll Be Doing
- Diagnose Windows desktops and laptops
- Perform hardware and software repairs
- Troubleshoot Windows problems, drivers, hardware failures, upgrades, and performance issues
- Assist with basic Apple/Mac diagnostics and repairs
- Perform quality-control testing before devices are returned to clients
- Accurately document diagnostics, repairs, testing, and device status
- Assist clients during computer drop-off and pickup
- Provide clear and professional repair updates by email
- Answer occasional phone calls and assist with normal shop operations
- Keep your work area and client devices organized
- Occasionally pick up or deliver computers and equipment for our local business clients
- Assist with basic networking and IT projects as your skills develop
- Participate in AI training modules and learn how modern AI tools can be used in a professional IT environment
- Help test and adapt new AI tools for office automation, troubleshooting, documentation, and internal workflows
- Learn how AI solutions can be applied to help our residential and business clients
- Represent Hi-Tek Solutions professionally when interacting with residential and business clients
What We Require
- At least 1 year of hands on computer repair experience
- Good working knowledge of Windows computers
- Basic knowledge of Apple/Mac computers
- Ability to diagnose problems instead of simply replacing parts or guessing
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Ability to write clear repair notes and basic professional emails
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to follow company procedures and checklists
- Dependable attendance and punctuality
- Professional attitude and appropriate boundaries with clients
- Respect for client privacy and confidential information
- Willingness to learn, ask questions, and accept feedback
- Interest in learning new technology, including AI-based tools
- Valid driver's license and a reliable, insured vehicle
- Comfortable occasionally driving locally to pick up or deliver client equipment
- Ability to safely lift and carry up to 40 lbs as needed, such as desktop PCs, monitors, or other equipment. Assistance will be available when needed for heavier or awkward items.
A reliable vehicle is required for this position.
Big Plus, But Not Required
- Basic networking knowledge
- Ability to make and test Ethernet/network cables
- Experience with routers, switches, Wi-Fi, or basic network troubleshooting
- Previous computer repair shop or IT support experience
- Experience using ticketing or repair-management systems
- Experience using AI tools for productivity, troubleshooting, automation, coding, or documentation
If you can properly make and test a network cable, definitely let us know.
Skills Assessment
Candidates moving forward in the hiring process will complete a basic hands-on technical assessment.
This is not designed to trick anyone or require advanced IT knowledge. We simply want to see how you approach troubleshooting, what you already know, how you document your work, and where additional training may be needed.
Basic Windows repair knowledge and basic Apple knowledge will be tested.
Training, AI & Career Growth
Technology is changing quickly, and we want our technicians to grow with it.
In addition to computer repair and IT training, technicians at Hi-Tek Solutions will have opportunities to participate in AI training modules designed around real world technology and business use.
Training may include:
- Using AI to assist with technical troubleshooting and research
- Improving repair documentation and internal workflows
- Learning how AI can help automate repetitive office tasks
- Testing new AI tools and determining where they can safely improve productivity
- Helping develop and improve internal automation systems
- Learning how AI tools can be applied to support our business clients
- Understanding when AI is useful and when traditional troubleshooting and human judgment are still required
As new tools become available, we plan to continue testing and adapting them into our shop and IT services.
We are looking for someone who is excited about computer repair, IT, networking, automation, and where technology is heading next.
What We’re Looking For
Technical skills are important, but we also care about the person behind those skills.
We want someone who:
- Shows up when they say they will
- Takes responsibility for their work
- Treats clients and their equipment with respect
- Communicates when they are unsure instead of guessing
- Can follow an established process
- Keeps accurate notes
- Understands that client trust and privacy matter
- Can work independently once trained
- Is comfortable learning new technology
- Is curious about AI, automation, networking, and modern IT
- Wants to continue developing real-world technical skills
We are not looking for someone who already knows everything. We are looking for someone who has a solid starting point, good judgment, and the willingness to become a stronger technician.
Schedule
- Part-time
- Minimum of 3 weekdays per week
- Flexible scheduling depending on availability
- Some Saturday availability may be needed depending on business needs
