Job Overview

Kansas Paving/Kansas Ready Mix is looking for an experienced concrete quality control technician to ensure that concrete production, raw materials, and finished structures meet strict project specifications, engineering plans, and industry standards.

The concrete QC professional monitors quality from the batch plant or precast yard all the way to the job site. They test fresh and hardened concrete, track mix designs, document results, and work closely with plant operators, engineers, and field crews to prevent defects.

Responsibilities:

· Material testing: Perform routine tests on fresh concrete (slump, air content, temperature, and unit weight/density) and cast cylinder specimens for 7-day and 28-day compressive strength testing

· Raw Material Checks: Inspect and monitor aggregates (stone, sand), water, cement, and chemical admixtures for moisture content, cleanliness, and grading.

· Mix Design & Calibrations: Verify that mix proportions align with project requirements and assist in calibrating plant batching scales and lab equipment.

· Documentation & Reporting: Maintain daily logs, test reports, batch tickets, and non-conformance records.

· Maintaining clean truck, testing equipment, air pot, slump cone

· Troubleshooting: Identify causes of low strength, poor workability, or surface defects, and coordinate corrective actions with batch plant operator/sales

Qualifications / Requirements:

· Education: High school diploma or GED

· Certifications: Frequently requires ACI (American Concrete Institute) Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I certification (or the ability to obtain it shortly after hire), alongside state/local department of transportation (DOT) qualifications

· Experience: 1 to 3+ years of experience in ready-mix concrete, precast manufacturing, or construction field testing.

· Skills & Physical Demands:

• Ability to read technical specs, and mix design sheets

• Basic math, computer, and data-entry skills

• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, variable shifts, stand or walk for long periods, and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
