Configuration Manager

Position Overview

The Configuration Manager is responsible for establishing, governing, and continually improving the Configuration Management and Document Control architecture across the product lifecycle. This role leads a team of engineers and document control specialists to ensure that customer data, Bills of Materials (BOMs), Engineering Change Orders (ECOs/ECNs), Approved Vendor Lists (AVLs), and product revision baselines are strictly controlled, accurate, and seamlessly aligned between Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems and ERP execution (SAP).

Key Responsibilities

Governance & Process Ownership:

• Define, implement, and maintain Configuration Management policies, SOPs, and work instructions in compliance with industry and regulatory standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 13485, AS9100).
• Serve as the focal point for Configuration Control Boards (CCB), facilitating change reviews, impact assessments, and sign-offs across Engineering, Materials, Quality, and Manufacturing operations.

Team Leadership & Resource Management:

• Manage, mentor, and build high-performing Configuration Engineers, Product Engineers, and Document Control Specialists.
• Assign project workloads for New Product Introduction (NPI) builds and sustaining active production programs.

PLM & ERP Alignment:

• Oversee data synchronization between Agile/Windchill (PLM) and SAP (ERP) to ensure 100% accuracy in part numbering, BOM structures, effectivity dates, and revision levels.
• Manage customer data transformation workflows to ensure external customer specs accurately reflect in Plexus standard formats.

Change Management (ECO/ECN/Deviation):

• Establish governance for change implementation throughout the product lifecycle (NPI to end-of-life), minimizing scrap, rework, and production delays caused by documentation errors.
• Audit implementation of engineering change notices on the shop floor in coordination with Quality and Manufacturing.

Audit & Compliance:

• Conduct regular Physical and Functional Configuration Audits (PCA/FCA).
• Support internal, customer, and third-party quality audits regarding documentation control, traceabilities, and product structure configurations.

Continuous Improvement:

• Drive process automation and lean initiatives to speed up ECO/ECN turnaround times and error-proof data setup for high-mix, low-volume PCBA environments.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Manufacturing, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum 5–8 years of experience in Product Engineerin, Configuration Management, Document Control, or Product Engineering within an Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) or high-tech manufacturing environment.
• Minimum 2–3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
• Deep understanding of PCBA assembly process flows, SMT/THT technologies, and electronic components.
• Strong expertise in PLM tools (Agile, Windchill, Teamcenter) and ERP systems (SAP preferred).
• Thorough understanding of Configuration Control principles, BOM hierarchies, and standard revision-control mechanics.
• CMII Certification or IPX Configuration Management certification.
• ISO 13485 (Medical) or AS9100 (Aerospace) auditor exposure.
