About the Role
Our client, a top-tier Oil production and fertiliser manufacturing company, is seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Console Operator-(Fertilizer/Ammonia) to join their Central Control Room (CCR) team.
In this critical role, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and continuous monitoring and control of the Ammonia production plant from the control panel. The ideal candidate will have deep hands-on experience in ammonia synthesis processes, DCS operations, and plant commissioning/start-up procedures, ensuring optimal production targets are met while strictly adhering to global HSE standards.
Key Responsibilities
Plant Operations & Process Control:
- Operate, monitor, and control ammonia plant processes via the Distributed Control System (DCS)/SCADA to ensure safe, stable, and efficient production.
- Continuously monitor critical process parameters (temperature, pressure, flow, and level) across key units including Primary/Secondary Reformers, Shift Converters, CO2 Removal (Absorbers/Strippers), Methanation, and the Ammonia Synthesis Loop.
- Analyze online analyzer data and laboratory results to adjust process variables, ensuring the final ammonia product meets strict quality specifications.
- Identify process deviations, troubleshoot abnormalities, and implement immediate corrective actions to prevent unplanned shutdowns or equipment damage.
- Optimize energy consumption and process efficiency to maintain a low cost of production without compromising safety or quality.
Start-up, Shutdown & Commissioning:
- Execute complex plant start-up, normal shutdown, and emergency shutdown (ESD) sequences from the console in strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Support pre-commissioning, commissioning, and catalyst reduction activities as required.
- Monitor and control the purging, nitrogen blanketing, and leak testing of high-pressure systems.
Coordination & Communication:
- Act as the central communication hub, directing Field Operators to perform routine checks, line-ups, equipment isolations, and troubleshooting tasks.
- Conduct thorough and accurate shift handovers, ensuring the incoming shift is fully briefed on plant status, ongoing issues, and maintenance activities.
- Maintain accurate and detailed shift logs, parameter records, and production reports.
Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE):
- Strictly enforce Process Safety Management (PSM) guidelines, SOPs, and HSE protocols within the control room and for all field activities.
- Manage the Permit to Work (PTW) system, ensuring proper Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures are verified before issuing permits for maintenance.
- Respond swiftly and decisively to process alarms, gas leaks, or emergency scenarios in accordance with the plant’s Emergency Response Plan (ERP).
Requirements & Qualifications
- OND, B.Sc, B.Tech, or HND in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, or a closely related technical discipline.
- 5 to 10 years of hands-on technical experience specifically operating the Ammonia/Fertilizer section of a large-scale chemical or petrochemical plant. (Candidates with experience in Syngas, Hydrogen, or Urea plants will also be strongly considered).
- Proven expertise in operating modern DCS/SCADA systems (e.g., Honeywell, Yokogawa, Emerson DeltaV, or SPEC 2000).
- Strong ability to read and interpret P&IDs, PFDs, and cause-and-effect matrices.
- Deep understanding of the Haber-Bosch process, thermodynamics, and high-pressure chemical reactions.
- In-depth knowledge of industrial HSE standards, Process Safety Management (PSM), and emergency response protocols. HSE Level 1, 2, & 3 certifications are a strong advantage.
- Excellent decision-making skills under pressure, strong analytical thinking, and the ability to maintain calm focus during critical process disturbances.
- Must be willing to work shift patterns (days/nights) and relocate to the plant site if required.
Salary & Other benefits
- 1,000,000+ (Based on experience), Medical Insurance covering family, Life Insurance, Accomodation and transportation, and free meal made available
