Construction Accounting Specialist

DiSabatino Construction Company, an equal opportunity employer, is a seeking an experienced construction accounting specialist for a busy commercial general contractor.

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Construction Accounting Specialist to manage the day-to-day financial health of our active construction projects. In this role, you will handle construction accounting processes, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, job costing , payroll, AIA billing , retention tracking , and subcontractor compliance .

The ideal candidate has strong organizational skills, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and possesses knowledge of the construction life cycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Job Cost Allocation: Process, code, and track vendor invoices and subcontractor payments against specific project phase codes and budgets.
• Progress Billing: Prepare monthly draw requests and owner billings using AIA formats or Time & Materials (T&M) structures.
• Compliance Management: Collect, verify, and track mandatory subcontractor documentation, including lien waivers, Certificates of Insurance (COIs), and W-9s before releasing payments.
• Payroll: Manage payroll process and submit certified payroll reports and ensure compliance with prevailing wage requirements for applicable projects.
• Financial Reconciliation: Assist the Controller with monthly bank reconciliations, credit card matching.
• Communication: Serve as the primary financial point of contact for subcontractors, suppliers, and internal Project Managers to resolve billing discrepancies.

Qualifications & Experience

• Experience: 2+ years of dedicated accounting experience specifically within the construction, engineering, or real estate development industry.
• Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is preferred or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Software Skills: Proficiency in construction ERP software (e.g., Procontractor, Acumatica**,** or QuickBooks Desktop) is highly desirable.
• Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction concepts like retention/retainage, schedule of values, and “paid-when-paid” terms.
• Excel: Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
