Construction Accounts & Systems Specialist

About the role

This is a hands-on position for someone who takes ownership of the accounts, follows through on outstanding payments and is confident introducing more efficient systems and technology. The successful applicant will bring structure, transparency and technology to our financial processes.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, invoicing and accurate financial records.
• Actively track and pursue outstanding construction retentions, progress payments and overdue accounts, liaising with builders and accounts departments.
• Accurately allocate income and expenditure to individual projects, monitor job costs and assist with profit and loss reporting.
• Develop clear spreadsheets, monthly reports and dashboards showing payments, outstanding balances and expenditure. Review invoices, identify discrepancies and prevent overpayments.
• Manage invoicing portals, progress claim submissions and retention tracking. Identify opportunities to improve systems through modern accounting software and automation.
• Manage and oversee WorkCover, Incolink, CoINVEST, CBUS and associated contributions, reporting and employee entitlements.
• Assist with employee onboarding and maintain accurate employee records, licences, certifications, inductions and compliance documentation.
• Work closely with external accountant to ensure accurate records, reporting and compliance.

About you

• Proven construction industry accounts experience – essential.
• Advanced Xero and Excel skills, including spreadsheet development and financial reporting.
• Strong understanding of construction job costing, progress claims, retentions and payment processes.
• Experience with construction invoicing platforms, builder portals and digital financial systems.
• Proven experience administering WorkCover, Incolink, CoINVEST and CBUS.
• Experience assisting with employee onboarding and maintaining compliance records.
• Strong financial analysis, cost control and reconciliation skills.
• Technology-savvy, highly organised, detail-oriented and confident working independently.
• Proactive in identifying improvements and implementing efficient accounting systems.
