We are working with a highly regarded international law firm, who are seeking a Non-Contentious Construction Solicitor to join their well-established construction team. This is an excellent opportunity for a solicitor with around 3–7 years' PQE to work on a broad range of high-value and complex construction matters, alongside experienced partners and leading practitioners in the market.
The team advises a wide range of clients including developers, investors, contractors, funders and other stakeholders across major development, infrastructure and real estate projects. The work is varied and commercially focused, providing excellent exposure to sophisticated construction transactions and the opportunity to develop strong client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Advising clients on a broad range of non-contentious construction matters across major development, real estate and infrastructure projects.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating construction contracts, including JCT, NEC and bespoke forms of contract.
- Advising on appointments, collateral warranties, performance security, bonds, guarantees and other construction-related documentation.
- Advising developers, investors, contractors, funders and other stakeholders on the construction aspects of major projects.
- Supporting clients throughout the lifecycle of projects, from initial procurement and contract negotiation through to completion.
- Working closely with colleagues across real estate, projects, finance and other practice areas to provide clients with a comprehensive service.
- Advising on procurement strategies, risk allocation, contractual obligations and project structures.
- Negotiating with counterparties and their legal advisers and providing commercially focused advice on contractual and project risks.
- Drafting and reviewing amendments, side letters, development agreements and other ancillary construction documentation.
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships and taking an active role in understanding clients' commercial objectives.
- Supporting business development initiatives, including client events, seminars, articles, networking and wider marketing activity.
The Ideal Candidate
- Qualified Solicitor of England and Wales with a current practising certificate and around 3–7 years' PQE, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Demonstrable experience in non-contentious construction, ideally gained within a recognised construction or projects team.
- Strong experience drafting and negotiating construction contracts and associated documentation.
- A good working knowledge of standard forms of construction contract, including JCT and/or NEC.
- Strong technical, drafting and negotiation skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Commercially minded, with the ability to understand and advise on complex project and contractual risks.
- Confident dealing directly with clients and able to explain complex legal and commercial issues clearly.
- Well organised and able to manage multiple matters and competing deadlines effectively.
- A collaborative team player who is keen to take ownership of matters and develop their technical and client-facing skills.
- Experience acting for developers, investors, contractors or funders on major projects would be advantageous.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a highly regarded Construction team, with genuine scope to take on responsibility, work on high-quality and complex projects and develop your practice alongside experienced practitioners.
