What they need

Who are we?

Tier 1 Interiors is an established Christchurch-based interior linings and plastering company specialising in residential construction. With over 30 years of industry experience, we've built our reputation on quality workmanship, strong relationships and getting the job done right.

We're a busy, growing business with a practical, hardworking team who take pride in what we do. We value good communication, reliability and people who bring a positive attitude to work.

We're looking for someone who wants to become an important part of our team, take ownership of their responsibilities and help keep the business running smoothly.

About the role

We're looking for an organised, proactive and personable Construction Coordinator to support the day-to-day operations of our business.

This is a varied, hands-on coordination and administration role, working closely with management, our tradespeople, subcontractors, clients and suppliers.

You'll be involved in everything from job back-costing and project coordination to employment documentation, staff records and contractor management.

We're after someone who enjoys being busy, is comfortable juggling different priorities and can think on their feet when things don't go to plan.

No two days will be quite the same, and we want someone who genuinely enjoys being part of a team and helping make things happen.

Key responsibilities

Job costing & project coordination

  • Assist with job back-costing, reviewing actual labour, materials and subcontractor costs against project budgets.
  • Help track project costs, variations and job profitability.
  • Support job scheduling, project administration and day-to-day coordination.
  • Keep job records, costing information and project documentation accurate and up to date.

People & contractor management

  • Prepare and maintain employment contracts, onboarding documentation and employee records.
  • Maintain staff, subcontractor, training and PPE registers.
  • Coordinate employee and subcontractor compliance documentation.
  • Assist with managing subcontractors, including communication, scheduling and following up on requirements.
  • Liaise with clients, site supervisors and contractors to help keep projects running smoothly.

General operations & administration

  • Support health and safety administration and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain accurate business records, registers and internal systems.
  • Assist with day-to-day office operations and provide administrative support to management.
  • Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes and efficiencies.

About you

We're looking for someone with a great attitude, a practical mindset and a genuine willingness to get involved.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • Some experience working in the construction or trades industry, with an understanding of how building projects operate.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Confidence working with numbers, spreadsheets and financial information.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships with tradespeople, clients and management.
  • A positive, approachable personality and a good sense of humour.
  • Confidence taking ownership of tasks, following things through and holding people accountable when needed.
  • Great attention to detail and pride in keeping information accurate.
  • Good computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and Word, and the ability to learn new software.
  • A solutions-focused approach and the ability to adapt when plans change.

Experience with job costing, construction administration, HR coordination or contractor management would be an advantage, but you don't need to have done everything on this list.

For us, finding the right person with the right attitude is just as important as experience.
