Construction Equipment Operator

Overview

Join our dynamic construction team as a Construction Equipment Operator, where your expertise in heavy machinery and utility work will drive the success of our projects. In this role, you will operate a variety of construction equipment, including excavators, loaders, backhoes, and water trucks, to facilitate excavation, grading, utility installation, and site development. Your attention to safety and mechanical knowledge will ensure smooth operations on busy construction sites while adhering to federal safety regulations and equipment safety procedures. Role and Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment of heavy-equipment of various sizes and weights in a safe and appropriate manner according to the specific job
• Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures and bring problems to the attention of the Forman, Superintendent, Safety Director, or HR Manager
• Follow daily procedures and protocols specific to the job
• Perform routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or needed repairs to supervisor
• Clean equipment
• Take action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, for falling objects
• Locate underground services, such as pipes or wires, prior to beginning any work
• Coordinate equipment actions with other trades
• Check fuel supplies at job site to ensure adequate availability

Physical Demands

• Work is regularly performed in outside weather conditions, including rain and extreme heat, near moving and mechanical parts
• Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, vibration, dust, and asphalt
• Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
• Usually exposed to generally loud noise levels
• Frequently sitting for long periods of time
• Use hands to handle, finger, feel, or operate objects, tools, and controls
• Reach with arms and hands
• Requires good manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Knowledge of heavy-equipment operating principles
• Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations
• Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures
• Knowledge of equipment cleaning standards and procedures
• Knowledge of equipment maintenance and storage

Preferred Skills

• Ability to work from construction specifications or off of blueprints
• Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions
• Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
• Ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions
• Ability to perform manual work requiring periods of extensive physical exertion and potential exposure to adverse weather conditions
• Have above average eyesight and coordination
• Ability to work well with other trades
• Operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
• Have the precision to operate equipment to job specifications
• Have analytical and problem-solving skills
• Troubleshoot and/or determine the causes of operating errors and deciding the appropriate course of action
• Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed
• Monitor gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure equipment is working properly
