Construction Estimator

Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Construction Estimator to join our team and drive the success of our commercial construction projects. In this role, you will prepare accurate cost estimates, analyze blueprints and technical drawings, and collaborate closely with clients, project managers, and suppliers. Your expertise will help ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Responsibilities

• Review and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to accurately estimate material requirements and labor costs.
• Develop comprehensive project budgets by assessing scope, materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs using estimating software such as HeavyBid or similar tools.
• Utilize construction management software and spreadsheets to compile detailed cost analyses and bid proposals.
• Conduct material cost estimating by sourcing prices from suppliers and negotiating favorable terms to optimize project budgets.
• Prepare detailed bid packages that include scope of work, pricing strategies, and risk assessments while ensuring compliance with client specifications.
• Collaborate with clients, subcontractors, and vendors through effective negotiation to secure competitive pricing and favorable contract terms.
• Manage multiple estimates simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines for bid submissions.
• Review construction drawings thoroughly to identify potential issues or opportunities for cost savings during the estimating process.
• Assist in managing project budgets during execution by monitoring costs, controlling expenses, and implementing cost control measures.
• Stay updated on industry trends, new materials, estimating techniques, and software tools like Bluebeam or Xactimate to enhance estimating accuracy.

Requirements

• Proven experience in managing projects as a construction estimator within the commercial construction sector.
• Strong proficiency with estimating software such as HeavyBid or equivalent construction estimating tools.
• Extensive knowledge of construction management software platforms and Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel spreadsheets for data analysis.
• Skilled in blueprint reading, interpreting technical drawings, and reviewing construction documents accurately.
• Demonstrated ability in cost management, material cost estimating, pricing strategies, and estimating material requirements from blueprints.
• Excellent negotiation skills with a track record of securing competitive prices from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Construction site experience combined with a solid understanding of construction industry practices is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with Xactimate or similar estimation platforms is a plus.
• Strong communication skills for client interactions and team collaboration across project phases.
• Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently while maintaining attention to detail under tight deadlines.
