We’re seeking a detail-oriented Construction Estimator who understands how projects are built and can turn plans, specifications, and preliminary concepts into thorough, realistic estimates.

About the Position

You’ll help evaluate bid opportunities, develop project budgets, and prepare competitive proposals. Working closely with company leadership, field personnel, subcontractors, and suppliers, you’ll identify the full scope of work, evaluate costs, and help ensure each project starts with a clear understanding of its requirements.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings, specifications, bid instructions, and addenda to identify project requirements.
• Perform quantity takeoffs and develop estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work.
• Estimate self-performed scopes using realistic crew production rates and field input.
• Request and evaluate subcontractor and supplier proposals; clarify exclusions and address scope gaps.
• Attend site walks and pre-bid meetings to assess existing conditions and project constraints.
• Prepare preliminary budgets as designs develop, documenting assumptions, allowances, and exclusions.
• Identify cost-saving alternatives, construction challenges, and potential financial risks.
• Assemble clear proposals and review pricing with company leadership before submission.
• Maintain organized estimating records, cost history, and subcontractor contacts.
• Coordinate awarded-project handoffs so project teams understand the estimate, scope, and commitments.

Qualifications

• Three or more years of construction estimating experience preferred, ideally with a general contractor.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
• Working knowledge of construction methods, trade sequencing, labor productivity, and material costs.
• Experience completing takeoffs, comparing bids, and preparing detailed estimates.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and digital takeoff or estimating software.
• Strong organization, communication, and follow-through.
• Ability to manage multiple bid deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
• Practical judgment and a willingness to ask questions, verify quantities, and resolve missing information.

Experience with concrete, structural steel, metal buildings, and self-performed construction is a plus. Field construction experience and familiarity with Central Valley subcontractors and suppliers are also valuable. A construction-related degree is welcome; relevant hands-on experience is equally valued.
