Construction Estimator

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Construction Estimator to prepare accurate, competitive estimates for construction projects. This role evaluates project plans, specifications, labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor pricing to support informed bidding and successful project delivery. The estimator works closely with project management, operations, vendors, and clients throughout the estimating process.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings, specifications, bid documents, and site conditions to determine project scope and requirements.
• Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and other project needs.
• Use Bluebeam and estimating tools such as HeavyBid to review plans, organize takeoffs, and develop bids.
• Obtain and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes; verify scope, exclusions, and assumptions.
• Research current costs and market conditions to develop accurate pricing.
• Identify scope gaps, risks, and potential cost-saving opportunities, and document estimating assumptions clearly.
• Coordinate with project managers and operations teams to confirm schedules, resources, and construction methods.
• Support bid preparation, submission, and follow-up, including participating in client or subcontractor discussions.
• Apply negotiation skills when clarifying quotes, scopes, and project terms.
• Maintain organized estimating records and contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes.
• Support the transition of awarded projects to project management teams.

Qualifications

• Experience in construction estimating or a related construction role; hands-on construction experience is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with construction plans, specifications, takeoffs, cost analysis, and bid preparation.
• Experience with Bluebeam; familiarity with HeavyBid is preferred.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Ability to assess pricing, compare quotes, and communicate cost assumptions effectively.
• Effective communication and negotiation skills when working with clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
• Ability to coordinate multiple deadlines and contribute to project management activities.
• Proficiency with standard office software and willingness to learn company-specific estimating systems.

Pay: From $85,000.00 per year
