Construction Estimator / Quantity Surveyor

About the role

Bragg Building and Design Ltd is seeking an experienced Construction Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to join our team on a full-time basis in Invercargill, Southland. This is a pivotal role within our organisation, responsible for providing accurate cost estimations, detailed quantity take-offs, and comprehensive project analysis that directly impact our business performance and client relationships. As a key member of our estimating team, you will play a critical role in the tendering process, project planning, and ensuring our projects remain financially viable from conception through completion.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and bills of quantities for construction projects of varying complexity and scale
• Conduct thorough site visits and assessments to gather accurate information for estimating purposes
• Analyse architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and tender documentation
• Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams to obtain competitive pricing and quotations
• Prepare tender submissions and supporting documentation for client presentation
• Monitor and track actual costs against estimates throughout project delivery
• Provide cost advice and value engineering recommendations to project managers and clients
• Maintain comprehensive estimating databases and historical cost records
• Collaborate with the design team to support feasibility studies and preliminary cost planning
• Ensure all estimates comply with industry standards and company procedures

What we're looking for

• Formal qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Estimating, or equivalent construction-related discipline

• 3+ years of proven experience in construction estimating or quantity surveying within the New Zealand construction industry

• Strong proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office applications

• Excellent knowledge of construction methods, materials, and current market pricing

• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical specifications

• Strong mathematical and analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to liaise effectively across all levels

• Professional certification such as NZQS (New Zealand Quantity Surveyors) membership or equivalent is highly desirable

• Proven track record of meeting tight deadlines whilst maintaining accuracy and quality
