Construction Estimator – Roadway & Ancillary Services

About the Position

We are an established Texas-based roadway construction contractor seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Construction Estimator to join our team.

Our company specializes in ancillary roadway construction services, including pavement markings, traffic control, roadway signage, sweeping, and related infrastructure maintenance.

The ideal candidate will have experience in construction estimating, strong analytical skills, and the ability to independently identify bidding opportunities, develop competitive pricing, and manage proposals from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities

• Proactively identify and pursue bidding opportunities through TxDOT, municipal and county procurement platforms, general contractor invitations, and other industry resources.
• Review bid solicitations, construction plans, specifications, and contract documents to determine project scope and requirements.
• Prepare accurate, competitive estimates and proposals for pavement markings, traffic control, roadway signage, sweeping, and related construction services.
• Develop unit pricing based on labor, equipment, materials, production rates, and project-specific conditions.
• Evaluate potential projects based on profitability, location, scheduling, and company capabilities.
• Perform quantity takeoffs and verify quantities when necessary.
• Solicit and evaluate material supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Identify potential cost risks, scope gaps, and opportunities to improve bid competitiveness.
• Independently manage multiple bidding opportunities, track deadlines, and ensure timely proposal submissions.
• Coordinate with project managers and operations personnel to verify pricing assumptions and anticipated production capabilities.
• Maintain organized bid records, historical pricing data, and bid tracking reports.
• Assist with pricing change orders, additional work, and negotiated proposals.
• Develop and maintain relationships with general contractors and industry contacts to identify future bidding opportunities.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of construction estimating experience preferred, ideally in roadway, highway, civil, or infrastructure construction.
• Experience with TxDOT, municipal, county, or general contractor bidding processes is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of unit-price estimating, construction costs, labor productivity, and equipment utilization.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and bid documents.
• Ability to perform quantity takeoffs when required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with construction estimating software and online bidding platforms is a plus.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Experience with pavement markings, traffic control, roadway signage, or sweeping is preferred but not required.

Compensation

$50,000–$85,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
