We are looking for an experienced Construction Foreman / Skilled Carpenter to join our team. This is a hands-on position for someone who is confident working independently, leading others when required, and taking a residential construction project from start to finish.

We use AI-assisted tools to help identify and match applicants to our open roles. This may include reviewing resumes and suggesting potential matches. All final hiring decisions are made by humans.

About Niagara Sun & ShadeFounded in 2023, Niagara Sun & Shade brings decades of construction experience to homeowners throughout the Niagara Region. We proudly serve customers throughout Grimsby, Lincoln, West Lincoln, Pelham, Wainfleet, Welland, Thorold, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, Port Colborne, and surrounding communities.

We specialize in creating comfortable and functional outdoor living spaces, including:

  • Three-season and year-round sunrooms
  • Custom decks

What You'll Do

  • Lead and participate in the construction and installation of sunrooms, decks, patio covers, railings, awnings, and other outdoor living projects.
  • Complete framing, carpentry, installation, finishing, and general construction work.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, plans, measurements, and project specifications.
  • Lay out projects accurately and ensure work is completed according to plans.
  • Safely and confidently operate hand and power tools.
  • Coordinate daily job-site activities and keep projects moving efficiently.
  • Provide direction and support to other crew members when working in a lead capacity.
  • Ensure workmanship meets Niagara Sun & Shade's quality standards.
  • Identify job-site challenges and determine practical solutions.
  • Monitor materials and communicate material or equipment requirements.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and professional job sites.
  • Follow company procedures and applicable health and safety requirements.
  • Communicate professionally with homeowners, suppliers, subcontractors, and other team members.
  • Help ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

The Right PersonWe're looking for someone who doesn't simply want to complete the job — we want someone who cares about how the finished project looks.

You should be comfortable taking ownership of your work, solving problems as they arise, and maintaining a high standard of craftsmanship. You understand that when working at a customer's home, professionalism, cleanliness, communication, and attention to detail are just as important as construction ability.

Whether you're an experienced Construction Foreman or a highly skilled Carpenter ready to take the next step into a leadership role, we'd like to hear from you.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of carpentry or residential construction experience.

  • Previous foreman, lead hand, or crew leadership experience is an asset.

  • Experience with outdoor residential construction projects such as sunrooms, decks, patio covers, railings, awnings, or additions.

  • Experience with construction finishing work.

  • Ability to read construction drawings and work from plans.

  • Comfortable calculating measurements, angles, elevations, and material requirements.

  • Strong knowledge of hand and power tools.
