Construction Foreman – Underground Utilities and Water Main

Civil Construction, LLC is a heavy highway and underground utility contractor based in Hyattsville, Maryland. We are hiring an experienced Construction Foreman with underground utility and water-main experience to supervise field crews working primarily in Baltimore, Maryland.

Job Responsibilities

Crew and Project Management

• Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the assigned crew.
• Review project plans, specifications, scope and daily production goals.
• Plan and lay out upcoming work two to three working days in advance.
• Assign crew responsibilities and monitor attendance, performance, productivity and workmanship.
• Coordinate manpower, materials, deliveries, trucks, equipment and special tools.
• Communicate with superintendents, project managers and inspectors.

Safety and Quality

• Conduct and document daily Toolbox Talks or pre-task safety meetings.
• Enforce PPE, excavation, trenching, traffic-control and other safety requirements.
• Verify utility tickets and markings before excavation begins.
• Protect employees, the public, existing utilities and surrounding property.
• Ensure work is completed according to project plans, specifications and quality requirements.
• Stop work and escalate unsafe conditions, utility conflicts or significant field issues.

Reporting and Equipment

• Track and report labor, equipment, materials, production quantities, bid items and station numbers.
• Verify employee hours, job numbers and cost codes.
• Complete accurate daily reports and submit required progress photographs and tickets.
• Ensure company vehicles, equipment and tools are used properly.
• Immediately report injuries, utility strikes, accidents, equipment damage and other significant incidents.
• Keep the jobsite clean, organized, secure and safe.

Job Requirements

• Minimum five years of heavy civil or underground utility construction experience.
• Previous experience supervising a construction crew.
• Direct experience with water-main installation, replacement and repair.
• Knowledge of excavation, trenching, shoring and underground utility safety.
• Ability to read construction plans, specifications, stationing and grades.
• Experience laying out water-main work, including hydrants, valves, bends, tees and connections.
• Ability to coordinate crews, materials, equipment, trucks and daily production.
• Ability to complete timekeeping, daily reports, quantities and job documentation accurately.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Ability to work days, nights, weekends, overtime and emergency assignments when required.
• English and Spanish communication skills preferred.
• OSHA 30, Excavation Competent Person and MOT certifications preferred.

Work Location

The employee will work from Civil Construction's Hyattsville, Maryland office and regularly visit active project sites, primarily in Baltimore, Maryland.
