CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR

Location: Lynchburg, Virginia | Full-Time | Monday–Friday

Salary: $65,000–$95,000 Annually (Based on Experience & Qualifications)

Schwartz & Associates, Inc., an established structural engineering firm with offices in Lynchburg and Roanoke, Virginia, is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Construction Inspector to join our team at our Lynchburg office.

Our firm specializes in the design and inspection of bridges and related structures. We take pride in our family-oriented work environment, strong work ethic, and commitment to delivering high-quality engineering services.

The ideal candidate will possess experience in bridge and/or roadway construction inspection, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with project managers, engineers, and construction personnel.

Position Responsibilities

• Monitor construction activities to verify compliance with applicable plans, specifications, and established standards.
• Maintain accurate inspection reports, documentation, and project records.
• Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
• Identify and report construction deficiencies, discrepancies, or potential concerns.
• Perform fieldwork in various outdoor conditions and construction environments.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant construction inspection experience, preferably involving bridges and/or roadways.
• Valid Virginia driver's license.
• Basic computer proficiency and ability to prepare and maintain inspection documentation.
• Ability and willingness to perform outdoor fieldwork at active construction sites.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Current VDOT construction inspection certifications.
• 3–5+ years of relevant bridge and roadway construction inspection experience.
• Familiarity with VDOT construction specifications, inspection procedures, and documentation requirements.
