Construction Inspector

Construction Inspector - NYS Psych Hospital, Rockland County

JED Engineering & Land Surveying, P.C. is seeking a qualified Construction Inspector to support a major renovation project at the Rockland Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, New York for the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH).

The position is anticipated to begin in December 2026 – January 2027, subject to the project construction schedule, and will provide full-time field inspection services throughout the construction phase.

Responsibilities:

• Monitor contractor activities for compliance with contract drawings, specifications, approved submittals, and applicable codes and standards.
• Prepare detailed daily inspection reports documenting construction activities, manpower, equipment, progress, and field conditions.
• Review materials, workmanship, and installation practices for compliance with project requirements.
• Identify and document deficiencies, non-conforming work, and field conditions requiring resolution.
• Coordinate with the Construction Manager, contractors, design professionals, and owner representatives.
• Attend project and field coordination meetings, as required.
• Monitor site safety conditions and report observed safety concerns in accordance with established project procedures.
• Assist with punch list inspections, substantial completion, and project closeout activities.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 5–10 years of construction inspection or construction field experience, preferably involving building renovation, healthcare, institutional, or other public-sector facilities.
• Experience reviewing construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and other contract documents.
• Strong knowledge of general building construction and renovation practices.
• Experience preparing daily inspection reports and maintaining accurate field documentation.
• Ability to coordinate effectively with contractors, construction managers, design professionals, and owner representatives.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in an active construction environment.
• Experience on DASNY, NYS OGS, OMH, or similar New York State and City public-sector projects is highly desirable.
• OSHA construction safety training.

Salary Information:

$65.00 - $75.00 per hour + benefits
