Construction Laborer

Job Summary

Perform tasks involving physical labor at building construction projects. Operation of hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments. Clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris, assistance of other craft workers. Commercial Construction projects are located in and around the Metrowest and Boston areas.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Shoveling
• Soil material spreading and compacting
• Use of compaction equipment (plate compactors, remote control vibratory rollers, jumping jacks)
• Control grade for machine operators
• Utility pipe laying (water, drainage, sewer) and use of pipe laying machinery and survey equipment
• Structure setting
• Curb setting
• Asist with equipment maintenance
• General project cleanup
• Assist carpenters or other trades with setup or material handling / moving
• Placement and finishing of concrete
• Installation of brick inverts and brick pavers
• Landscaping preparation
• Hardscaping preparation
• Dewatering (use of various pumps and hoses)
• Setup of maintenance of traffic and pedestrian control
• Use of compressors for demolition or pavement removal activities (jackhammering, air drilling)
• Performance of other related duties as assigned

Required Certification/License/Background

• OSHA Certification

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required
• One to two years of related experience preferred but not required

Required Skills/Abilities

• Ability to operate heavy handheld equipment and tools
• Knowledge of excavation procedures and techniques
• Ability to follow instructions and read excavation plans
• Ability to complete safety awareness training
• Common sense mechanical and problem-solving skills

Pysical Requirements

• Able to complete physically demanding work
• Able to lift and carry heavy objects
• Good hand-eye-foot coordination and sense of balance
• Able to kneel, crouch, or crawl in awkward spaces to repair equipment

• A Massachusetts CORI check will be performed on all candidates prior to employment.

Pay: $35.00 - $75.00 per hour
