What they need
EvoTek is transforming the construction industry through the use of precision technology, including robotic total station layout, 3D laser scanning, and reality capture, to provide real, usable data for field teams. Our company is seeking an experienced Construction Layout/Reality Capture Specialist to support our growing construction layout and reality capture services. This role combines precision construction layout using robotic total stations with high-quality 3D laser scanning, carrying project data from design files to the field and back to support layout, as-builts, fabrication, and BIM coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Layout
- Perform construction layout on active job sites using Leica robotic total stations and Leica GNSS/GPS equipment.
- Establish, traverse, and verify horizontal and vertical site control, tying into project benchmarks and coordinate systems.
- Lay out gridlines, building corners, foundations, anchor bolts, embeds, walls, sleeves, hangers, and MEP penetrations from design data.
- Perform as-builts of anchor bolts, embeds, foundations, and other installed work, and report deviations against project tolerances.
- Build layout point files from AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Revit drawings and models, and transfer data between office software and field controllers.
- Identify dimensional discrepancies and drawing conflicts before layout and resolve them with project teams.
- Coordinate with superintendents, foremen, and trades to prioritize layout and keep work on schedule.
Reality Capture
- Perform 3D laser scanning on active construction sites, industrial facilities, and commercial environments.
- Execute scanning workflows using Leica reality capture equipment, tying scan data to project control.
- Maintain Leica total stations, GNSS receivers, scanners, prisms, targets, tripods, batteries, and field documentation, including routine instrument checks and calibration.
- Coordinate site access and field activities with project teams to maintain schedule and safety requirements.
Office/Technical Support
- Use AutoCAD and Civil 3D to prepare layout data, process field survey data, and produce points, surfaces, alignments, and as-builts.
- Register and process point cloud data using Leica Register 360+, Cyclone, and related Leica software.
- Perform QA/QC on layout and scan data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project control.
- Prepare point cloud deliverables for use in Autodesk platforms.
- Support creation of client deliverables including layout reports, as-builts, registered point clouds, scan reports, deviation analyses, and model-ready files.
- Assist with integrating point cloud data into Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D workflows as required by the project scope.
- Manage data organization, file naming, and project documentation.
Advancing Company Services
- Learning and applying advanced layout, laser scanning, and registration workflows.
- Developing as-builts and deviation analysis reports.
- Helping advance research and use of new technologies including drones, robotics, robotic layout, AI, and new systems.
Qualifications
Required Experience & Technical Skills
- Surveying & Layout: Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in construction layout or surveying using robotic total stations and data collectors (Leica equipment highly preferred).
- Software Proficiency: Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D, specifically with extracting layout points, managing coordinate data, and processing field data.
- Reality Capture: Experience operating laser scanners and processing point clouds using Leica reality capture systems (Register 360+, Cyclone 3DR) or equivalent software.
- Blueprint Literacy: Proven ability to read, interpret, and cross-reference civil, site, structural, and architectural construction drawings.
- Survey Fundamentals: Strong command of core principles, including coordinate systems, site control, benchmarks, traversing, and tolerance management.
- Technical Aptitude: High level of competency with modern field technology and robust field-to-office quality control workflows.
Logistics & Professional Traits
- Autonomy & Collaboration: Ability to work independently on active job sites while maintaining clear communication and coordination with project teams.
- Travel: Willingness and ability to travel to various project sites as required.
- Licensing: Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Degree or diploma in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, or a closely related field.
- Leica Ecosystem: Direct experience with Leica Captivate field software, Leica Infinity office software, and Leica GNSS/RTK equipment (including site calibrations).
- Specialized Inspections: Background performing detailed as-builts for anchor bolts, embeds, and structural steel.
- BIM Integration: Experience integrating point cloud data into Autodesk Revit for fabrication-driven workflows.
- Certifications: OSHA 10/30 certification, Survey Technician certification, or active progress toward an LSIT/SIT designation.
