Designed to operate around the clock once complete, the facility incorporates high-security environments, complex building systems, and long-term asset management requirements. The project environment is fast-paced, highly collaborative and governance-led, with strong interface management across public and private sector stakeholders.

About the Opportunity

This is a unique opportunity to play a critical role in delivering a high-profile, nationally significant infrastructure project. As Materials Controller, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective planning, coordination, movement, storage and control of materials across the project lifecycle. Working closely with procurement, construction, commercial and project delivery teams, you will help maintain supply chain continuity, optimise logistics operations, and ensure materials are available when and where they are needed to support successful project execution.

About the Role

Based in Christchurch, the Materials Controller is responsible for leading all material management, warehousing, inventory control and logistics functions across the project. You will oversee the end-to-end management of materials from procurement and delivery through to storage, tracking, distribution and reconciliation. The role requires strong coordination across internal stakeholders, subcontractors, suppliers and transport providers to ensure efficient site operations and alignment with project schedules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement project-wide materials management and logistics strategies
  • Coordinate the receipt, inspection, storage, handling and distribution of project materials
  • Establish and maintain accurate inventory management and material tracking systems
  • Monitor stock levels and material availability to ensure alignment with construction schedules
  • Manage warehousing operations, storage facilities and material control processes
  • Coordinate delivery schedules, transport providers and site logistics activities
  • Work closely with procurement teams to track purchase orders, lead times and critical materials
  • Identify and mitigate supply chain, storage and logistics risks that may impact project delivery
  • Produce regular reports on inventory, material status, logistics performance and forecasting requirements
  • Coordinate with construction teams, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure efficient material flow across the site
  • Ensure compliance with project quality requirements, security protocols and HSE standards
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across material control, logistics and inventory management processes

About You

  • Proven experience in materials management, logistics, warehousing or supply chain coordination within major construction or infrastructure projects
  • Strong understanding of material control processes, inventory management and logistics planning
  • Experience coordinating multiple stakeholders, suppliers, subcontractors and transport providers
  • Ability to manage competing priorities within a fast-paced project environment
  • Excellent organisational, reporting and problem-solving skills
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication capability
  • A proactive and solutions-focused approach with a strong commitment to safety, quality and project outcomes

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Construction Management, Engineering, Business or a related discipline
  • 5+ years' experience in materials control, logistics management or supply chain roles within construction, infrastructure, industrial or engineering environments
  • Experience managing inventory systems, warehousing operations and material tracking processes
  • Strong understanding of procurement interfaces, logistics planning and supply chain management principles
  • Proficiency in ERP, inventory management or materials control systems

What We Offer

This role offers a genuinely unique opportunity to work within a joint-venture environment, combining the strength and capability of a highly respected New Zealand constructor with the scale, systems, and global experience of a leading international infrastructure organisation.

We offer:

  • The opportunity to be embedded in a large-scale, high-profile project from early stages through delivery
  • Exposure to both local best practice and world-class global systems and processes, providing invaluable professional development
  • A collaborative, inclusive project team environment that values expertise, partnership, and shared success
  • Strong leadership, structure, and support within a well-resourced organisation
  • Competitive remuneration aligned to skills and experience
