Construction Manager

About the role

Lead Focusplan's construction team to deliver projects safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality and client expectations. The Construction Manager sets clear expectations, develops the team, allocates resources, and maintains oversight of performance across all construction projects. The role supports Project Managers and Site Managers to resolve issues and ensures timely action when delivery is at risk. Project Managers retain day-to-day responsibility for their assigned projects. The Construction Manager directly coordinates small aftercare projects and arranges leave cover, personally filling in where practical.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support the construction team, with clear responsibilities, priorities, and performance expectations
• Hold regular one-to-one meetings with direct reports and provide timely feedback, coaching, and development support
• Hold Project Managers accountable for project programme, cost, quality, safety, and client communication
• Review performance across all projects, identify emerging risks, and agree corrective actions with the responsible Project Manager
• Support the team to resolve delivery issues, including resource constraints, procurement delays, technical coordination, and subcontractor performance
• Maintain the Construction Resource Planner and allocate Project Managers, Site Managers, and Site Support across current and upcoming projects
• Review project budgets, financial forecasts, and emerging cost risks with Project Managers
• Oversee timely resolution of defects and aftercare requirements
• Reinforce safe working practices and clear health and safety expectations across the construction team
• Oversee the Auckland storage facility and the procurement, allocation, maintenance, and tracking of tools and equipment

About you

• Proven experience leading construction delivery and managing project or site teams
• Strong understanding of construction sequencing, programmes, budgets, procurement, quality control, and site safety
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
• Ability to review project performance, identify risks, and guide practical corrective action
• Capability to provide temporary Project Manager or Site Manager cover when required
• Clear written and verbal communication, including effective client communication
• Sound judgement, strong organisation, and the ability to manage competing priorities
• Positive attitude and willingness to grow yourself and develop further construction knowledge specific to the healthcare fitout industry
• Ability to work under pressure and multi-task in a highly pressurised environment
• Rigorous attention to detail
