Construction Manager

About the role

Johns Lyng Group is seeking a highly experienced Construction Manager to oversee the delivery of Large Loss projects across the Upper North Island, covering the region from Taupō through to the top of the North Island. This is a key operational role that will work closely with the Estimation Lead to oversee current large loss projects, upcoming projects and the transition of claims from estimating through to construction delivery. You will provide technical building knowledge, leadership and operational support to site supervisors, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, safely, within budget and to a high standard. This is a hands-on role suited to an experienced builder or construction professional who understands the demands of a fast-paced construction environment, can make informed decisions under pressure and has a strong eye for detail.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain strong working relationships with key clients, insurers, loss adjusters and other industry stakeholders.
• Work closely with the Estimation Lead to oversee all large loss projects, from initial scoping and estimating through to construction delivery and completion.
• Provide oversight of all active large loss projects across the Upper North Island, ensuring consistent project delivery and operational performance.
• Support and manage day-to-day queries from site supervisors, providing practical building advice, technical guidance and assistance with project challenges.
• Review upcoming projects and assist with planning, resource allocation, programming and construction requirements.
• Ensure supervisors have the necessary support, information and resources to successfully manage their projects.
• Monitor project progress, construction quality, timelines and budgets, identifying potential issues and implementing solutions early.
• Maintain strong communication between estimating, supervisors, trades, clients, insurers and loss adjusters.
• Identify opportunities to improve project delivery, efficiencies and overall operational performance.
• Ensure all projects meet relevant Building Code requirements, health and safety standards and company expectations.

About you

• Extensive experience within the building and construction industry, ideally as a qualified builder, Licensed Building Practitioner, Site Manager or Construction Manager.
• Strong understanding of residential construction methods, building practices, materials and compliance requirements.
• Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to identify potential construction issues and provide practical solutions.
• Confidence reviewing scopes of work, specifications, building details and construction methodologies.
• Ability to support supervisors with technical decisions and manage complex construction challenges.
• Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously within a fast-moving environment.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to support, guide and hold site supervisors accountable.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Insurance industry experience would be a significant advantage.
