GIS is a premier energy, industrial, and infrastructure services company providing multidisciplinary engineering, construction, and program delivery solutions across the energy, industrial, infrastructure, and power sectors. With more than 75 years of experience supporting offshore and onshore energy projects, GIS delivers integrated services spanning traditional and renewable energy, industrial engineering, state and local infrastructure, and utility-scale solar development. Our work is driven by a strong commitment to safety, innovation, and executional excellence.

Position Summary:

The Construction Manager II will oversee complex construction projects within power generation, substation, or high-voltage electrical environments. In this hands-on leadership role, you will be responsible for managing day-to-day operations on the job site, overseeing field crews of up to 20 personnel, and ensuring that all projects are successfully executed on schedule, within budget, and in strict compliance with safety standards.

This hybrid position requires a proactive leader who excels at coordinating with site teams, subcontractors, clients, and upper management to maintain smooth project flow and rapid issue resolution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct and supervise daily field operations on-site, providing active leadership to field crews of up to 20 workers.
  • Ensure construction activities align with project schedules, technical specifications, and budgetary constraints.
  • Serve as the primary communication bridge between site teams, subcontractors, clients, and upper management.
  • Enforce rigorous safety protocols on high-voltage and power infrastructure job sites, ensuring complete adherence to OSHA, NFPA, and company standards.
  • Identify potential site bottlenecks, constructability conflicts, or scheduling delays early and implement prompt corrective actions.
  • Utilize project management and enterprise software systems to monitor progress, track procurement, and manage documentation.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent education paired with professional work experience (substituting up to three years of experience for degree requirements).
  • 7 to 10 years of progressive construction management experience, with a specialized focus in power generation, substations, or high-voltage electrical environments.
  • OSHA 10 (or OSHA 30 preferred), NFPA 70E certification, Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) credential (required or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire)
  • General working knowledge of project management and enterprise tools such as Primavera P6, Procure, Maximo, or SAP.

Work Environment:

  • Hybrid schedule requiring approximately 60% on-site/field supervision in the San Antonio area and 40% office/remote support.
  • This position is primarily based in a construction site office with occasional work in outdoor field environments.
  • Field exposure may include varying weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain, mud, and uneven terrain.
  • May be exposed to noise, dust, and active construction equipment when accessing the site.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in designated areas.
  • Occasional travel to other projects or office locations may be required to support project needs

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to walk job sites, including uneven or rough terrain, as needed
  • Ability to stand, sit, and operate in a field environment for extended periods
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds
  • Use of standard PPE (hard hat, safety vest, boots, eye protection) as required on site
