What they need

Construction Manager

Company: Pentagon Technical Services (PTS)

Sector: Data Centre / Mission-Critical Construction

Location: Norway

Rotation: 3/1 (3 weeks on, 1 week off)

About the role

Pentagon Technical Services provides specialist technical and project resources to data centre and mission-critical construction clients across Europe. We are looking for an experienced Construction Manager to lead site delivery on a data centre project. You will be accountable for safety, quality and programme across all construction activities, and you will lead the site management and supervision team. You will be the senior site link between the project leadership, the client, the design team and the commissioning team.

Key responsibilities

  • Take overall responsibility for safe, on-time delivery of construction works on site, including civil, structural, mechanical and electrical packages.
  • Lead and develop the site management team, including Senior Site Supervisors, Site Supervisors, Site Engineers and HSE personnel.
  • Own site HSE performance, and make sure permit to work systems, isolation procedures and safe systems of work are in place, understood and enforced.
  • Develop and maintain construction methodologies, site logistics plans and installation sequencing for a fast-track, MEP-intensive build.
  • Manage the construction programme, monitor progress against key milestones, and put recovery plans in place where delays arise.
  • Manage subcontractor performance, interfaces and resourcing, and support the commercial team on change, variations and claims.
  • Make sure quality management systems, inspection and test plans, and installation records meet project specifications and client requirements.
  • Plan and manage the transition from construction through the five-stage commissioning process (L1–L5), working closely with the commissioning team to achieve integrated systems testing and handover.
  • Chair site coordination meetings, and report progress, safety, quality and risk to project leadership and the client.
  • Maintain site standards for safety, security and controlled access, particularly where works are in or next to live environments.
  • Lead incident investigations, make sure lessons learned are shared, and drive continuous improvement in site practices.
  • Build strong working relationships with the client, design consultants, local authorities and key subcontractors.

Essential requirements

  • Extensive construction management experience on large, complex projects, with proven delivery on data centre or comparable mission-critical schemes.
  • A recognised site management safety qualification: SMSTS, NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of MEP-heavy builds, including power distribution, UPS, generators and cooling systems.
  • Thorough understanding of the five-stage commissioning process and how construction supports it.
  • Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary site teams and managing large subcontractor workforces.
  • Strong programme management skills and commercial awareness.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in construction management, engineering or a related discipline.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.

Desirable

  • Experience delivering projects in Norway or the wider Nordic region, including in Nordic or Arctic conditions.
  • Experience working within or adjacent to live data centre environments.
  • Norwegian or another Scandinavian language capability.

Personal attributes

  • Calm, decisive and direct, with a strong safety-first mindset.
  • A confident leader who builds high-performing teams and holds them to high standards.
  • Comfortable dealing with clients and senior stakeholders.
  • Organised, with a disciplined approach to planning, reporting and close-out.
  • Willing to work in remote locations and on a rotation pattern.
