Kramer Consulting, LLC

Pay: Depending on experience and qualifications

Job Type: Full-time opportunities available

About Kramer Consulting

Kramer Consulting, LLC is a family-owned and operated professional engineering and land surveying firm that has proudly served communities since 1959. We provide engineering, surveying, planning, land development, design, and construction-related services for municipal and private projects.

As our company continues to grow, we are seeking a motivated, dependable, and detail-oriented individual to join our team.

Position Summary

We are looking for a Construction Inspector / Engineering & Surveying Technician to assist with construction observation, project documentation, and construction administration.

The selected candidate will work directly with our Project Engineers and Project Managers to observe construction activities, document progress, and help verify that work is being performed in general accordance with approved construction plans and specifications.

While construction observation will be the primary responsibility, we are also looking for an individual interested in expanding their skills and assisting with other aspects of our engineering and surveying operations.

We are open to both full-time and project-based employment, depending on the individual's preferences and availability. Full-time opportunities may include a combination of construction observation, land surveying, drafting, field measurements, and other engineering-related tasks. Project-based employment is also available for individuals interested primarily in construction observation assignments.

Prior experience in all of these areas is not required. We are willing to train the right individual who demonstrates a strong work ethic, dependability, initiative, and a willingness to learn.

Primary Responsibilities – Construction Observation

  • Perform on-site construction observation during active construction operations.
  • Observe and document construction activities for general conformance with approved plans and specifications.
  • Prepare accurate and detailed daily observation reports, including photographs, field measurements, weather conditions, personnel, equipment, and construction progress.
  • Measure, calculate, and track installed construction quantities for contractor payment applications.
  • Read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and approved submittals to understand project requirements.
  • Identify potential construction conflicts, deficiencies, or deviations from contract documents and promptly communicate concerns to the Project Engineer.
  • Observe delivered materials for general conformance with approved project requirements.
  • Assist with reviewing contractor payment applications, project schedules, and construction documentation.
  • Attend preconstruction and construction progress meetings, assist with preparing agendas, and document meeting discussions.
  • Monitor and document construction progress and communicate project updates to the engineering team.
  • Maintain professional communication with contractors, project owners, engineers, and other project personnel.

Additional Responsibilities – Engineering & Surveying Support

When construction observation assignments are limited, the selected candidate may assist with other activities, including:

  • Assist field survey crews with land surveying, measurements, and data collection.
  • Assist engineering and drafting staff with AutoCAD and Civil 3D tasks as skills and experience develop.
  • Perform field measurements, site investigations, and documentation for engineering projects.
  • Assist with construction staking and other surveying-related activities.
  • Support engineers and project managers with project documentation and administrative tasks.
  • Perform other engineering, surveying, and construction-related duties as assigned.

Training will be available for candidates who are interested in developing skills in these areas.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in construction, construction observation, utilities, surveying, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications, or willingness to learn.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and remain productive with limited supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to recognize potential issues.
  • Dependable, punctual, and self-motivated.
  • Willingness to accept instruction, constructive feedback, and opportunities for professional development.
  • Ability to work effectively with contractors, coworkers, engineers, and project owners.
  • Valid Kansas driver's license.

Preferred Experience (Not Required):

  • Municipal water and wastewater infrastructure construction.
  • Underground utility installation, excavation, earthwork, concrete, or paving.
  • Construction inspection, construction administration, or materials testing.
  • Land surveying or construction staking.
  • AutoCAD or Civil 3D.
  • Industry-related construction or inspection certifications.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Work will primarily involve field assignments at active construction sites, with office and surveying responsibilities as needed.
  • Construction observation assignments may require working outdoors in varying weather conditions and walking over uneven terrain.
  • Travel to project sites will be required.
  • Work schedules may vary depending on construction activities and project requirements.
  • Full-time, year-round employment opportunities are available for individuals willing and able to assist with multiple aspects of our engineering and surveying operations.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive hourly pay based on experience and qualifications.
  • Company-matched retirement plan.
  • Paid vacation and sick leave.
  • Health insurance.
  • Life insurance.
  • Short-term disability insurance.
  • Professional development and on-the-job training.
  • Opportunities for career advancement and expanded responsibilities.

Why Join Kramer Consulting?

Kramer Consulting, LLC has been family-owned and operated since 1959. As a small engineering and surveying firm, we take pride in maintaining a close-knit, team-oriented working environment where every employee plays an important role in our success.

You'll work directly with experienced engineers and project managers, allowing for open communication, mentorship, and opportunities for professional growth.

We understand that our employees are more than just a number. We value individual contributions, encourage new ideas, and recognize those who take initiative and demonstrate a strong work ethic.

We believe that attitude, dependability, and a willingness to learn are just as important as experience. We're not necessarily looking for someone who already knows everything. We're looking for someone who takes pride in their work, communicates well, and wants to be part of a team.

Whether you're an experienced construction professional looking for a change, someone seeking flexible project-based employment, or an individual interested in building a long-term career in engineering and surveying, we encourage you to apply.
