Construction Operations Manager

About the Role:

This role involves regular nationwide travel and overnight stays to oversee projects and support site teams. A small proportion of the role will involve working from home to complete planning, reporting and administrative duties. CBSS Ltd will provide the equipment required to carry out these duties.

CBSS Ltd is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee the delivery of construction, shopfitting, refurbishment and fire compartmentation projects across the UK.

The successful candidate must have several years’ experience within the construction industry, a strong working knowledge of construction processes and previous practical experience of working on the tools. This hands-on background is essential to support our site teams, resolve problems and maintain high standards of workmanship.

The role requires a confident leader who can manage site operations, coordinate resources and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on programme and to the required quality standards. Nationwide travel and overnight stays are a regular requirement.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day site operations across multiple projects.
• Lead, support and coordinate site managers, operatives and subcontractors.
• Plan labour, materials, equipment and deliveries to maintain progress.
• Monitor project programmes, identify potential delays and take action to resolve them.
• Apply practical construction knowledge to solve site problems and support effective decision-making.
• Maintain high standards of workmanship through regular site inspections and quality checks.
• Implement and monitor site health and safety arrangements, including risk assessments, method statements, inductions and toolbox talks.
• Ensure teams understand their responsibilities and follow agreed safe working procedures.
• Liaise professionally with clients, suppliers and the office team, providing clear updates on progress and issues.
• Manage works sensitively in occupied buildings and live environments.
• Coordinate snagging, completion checks and project handovers.

Essential experience and skills

• Several years’ relevant experience within the construction industry.
• Previous experience of working on the tools is a must.
• Strong working knowledge of construction methods, sequencing and site operations.
• Previous experience in site management, construction supervision or a comparable operational role.
• Sound knowledge of construction health and safety and the ability to apply it on site.
• Proven leadership skills, with the ability to motivate teams and maintain accountability.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, proactive approach.
• Excellent organisation and communication skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and remain calm under pressure.
• Willingness and availability to travel nationwide and stay away overnight.
• Full UK driving licence.

Desirable qualifications and experience

• SMSTS or SSSTS qualification.
• Relevant CSCS card and first aid qualification.
• Experience in commercial shopfitting, refurbishment or passive fire protection.
• Experience delivering projects in occupied premises, including retail, healthcare or education settings.

Pay: From £180.00 per day
