What they need

An established New Zealand commercial contractor is looking for an experienced Construction Programmer / Planner to join its Auckland team, working within the Pre-Construction and Tenders division.

The business delivers a diverse range of commercial construction projects across Auckland, spanning new builds, refurbishments, remediation and complex upgrade works.

This is an opportunity to take a key role in the planning behind those projects.

Working closely with the wider tender team, Construction Managers and Project Managers, you'll develop practical and achievable construction programmes from tender and pre-construction through to project delivery.

You'll need to understand more than the software. We're looking for someone who understands how a project comes together, including construction methodology, sequencing, programme risk, critical paths and the practical realities of delivery. You'll be able to translate that knowledge into clear, well-considered programmes using Microsoft Project.

You may be an intermediate Programmer / Planner looking to further develop your expertise, or someone more established who can bring additional planning capability and experience to the team.

The Role
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing detailed construction programmes for tenders and upcoming projects
  • Working with the Pre-Construction and Tenders team to establish methodology, sequencing and project timeframes
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documentation to determine programme requirements
  • Preparing tender programmes that clearly demonstrate construction methodology and delivery strategy
  • Working alongside Construction Managers and Project Managers to develop and review project programmes
  • Identifying critical paths, key milestones, constraints and programme risks
  • Updating programmes as project information and methodologies develop
  • Providing programming input across tender, pre-construction and project delivery
  • Assisting with programme reviews and reporting
  • Communicating programme requirements clearly across project teams

What We're Looking For
We're interested in hearing from construction planning professionals from either a commercial main contractor or specialist planning/programming consultancy background.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • Ideally 4+ years of construction planning or programming experience
  • Experience working within a commercial main contractor or specialist programming consultancy supporting main contractor clients
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Project
  • Good understanding of construction methodology, sequencing and project delivery
  • Experience developing tender and construction programmes, with broader exposure to pre-construction highly regarded
  • A tertiary qualification in Construction Management, Project Management, Engineering or a related discipline would be beneficial
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to work closely with construction and project teams
  • An organised, methodical and practical approach to your work
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify programme risks and constraints

Most importantly, you'll be someone who enjoys working collaboratively, understands construction and wants to continue developing your career within planning and programming.

What's On Offer?

  • Join an established New Zealand commercial contractor
  • Work across a diverse portfolio of commercial construction projects
  • Become an integral part of an experienced Pre-Construction and Tenders team
  • Exposure to varied projects, methodologies and construction challenges
  • Opportunity to further develop your specialist planning and programming capability
  • Supportive, family-oriented and down-to-earth team culture
  • Convenient Auckland office location
  • Free onsite parking
  • Salary reflective of experience and capability

This is an opportunity to join an experienced team where you'll have genuine input into how projects are planned and delivered. If you enjoy the technical side of construction and want to further develop your expertise in programming, this is a chance to become a valued part of a well-established commercial construction business.
