What they need
Company: LPD Builders
Location: Bay Area, California
Reports To: Head of Construction
Employment Type: Full-time
LPD Builders is a growing commercial general contractor specializing in tenant improvements, renovations, and build-outs throughout the Bay Area.
We are looking for a Project Engineer who is already working in commercial construction and wants to accelerate their growth by working directly with the Head of Construction.
This is not an entry-level “learn construction from scratch” position. You should already understand the pace, terminology, documentation, and accountability required on commercial projects. What you will learn here is how to become better at coordinating projects, protecting gross profit, solving problems early, and eventually running work yourself.
If you are energetic, competitive, organized, and tired of being underutilized, this role gives you a direct path to more responsibility and higher earning potential.
What You’ll Do
- Support commercial tenant improvement and renovation projects from preconstruction through closeout
- Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, architects, engineers, clients, and field teams
- Maintain RFIs, submittals, drawings, contracts, logs, schedules, and project files
- Assist with estimates, budgets, purchase orders, commitments, invoices, and pay applications
- Track change orders and potential change orders
- Monitor project schedules, material procurement, and critical deadlines
- Prepare meeting agendas, notes, action items, and client follow-ups
- Participate in job walks and help convert field information into clear next steps
- Track project risks related to cost, schedule, quality, and client satisfaction
- Support closeout, warranties, lien releases, and turnover documentation
- Follow up relentlessly until issues are resolved
GPAT / Profit Share Compensation
In addition to a competitive base salary, eligible team members participate in LPD Builders’ GPAT / Profit Share System.
Your upside is connected to the performance of the projects you help execute. As you demonstrate that you can protect schedule, quality, client relationships, and gross profit, your earning opportunity increases.
This is not compensation based only on showing up and putting in hours. We reward people who create profitable outcomes and take ownership of the details that make those outcomes possible.
The GPAT system and advancement path will be explained clearly during the interview, including performance expectations, eligibility, and how increased responsibility affects compensation.
You Must Have
- Current or recent experience in a commercial construction role
- Experience as a Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, Construction Coordinator, or similar
- Familiarity with RFIs, submittals, change orders, pay applications, schedules, and closeout
- Ability to read and understand construction plans and project documents
- Strong excel, communication, organization, and follow-up skills
- A track record of meeting deadlines and taking ownership
- Willingness to work in the field and office as project needs require
This Role Is Not For You If
- You have no commercial construction experience
- You need constant reminders to complete basic follow-up
- You avoid difficult conversations
- You are looking for a passive administrative job
- You are unwilling to be measured by project performance
If you already work in commercial construction and want to become the person trusted to run profitable projects, apply with your resume and a short explanation of the most complex commercial project you have supported.
