Job Description

McArdle Grading Co. is grading contractor specializing in site preparation, earthwork, and excavation for commercial and residential projects. We are Seeking a Project Engineer to support our project management team from pre-construction through closeout, helping keep projects organized, documented, on schedule, and within budget.

This role is ideal for someone with a technical background who wants hands-on field exposure and a clear path toward project management.

Responsibilities

• Support Project Managers on civil projects from startup to closeout
• Review civil plans, specifications, and contract documents
• Prepare and track submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings
• Perform quantity takeoffs and assist with estimating and bid preparation
• Help develop and update project schedules
• Track job costs, quantities installed, and production rates
• Prepare and document change orders, pay applications, and daily reports
• Coordinate with field crews, subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and surveyors
• Attend site visits, progress meetings, and preconstruction meetings
• Maintain accurate project records, including as-builts and closeout documents
• Support safe work practices and compliance with company and OSHA standards

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• 0–3 years of experience in civil construction, site development, or utilities
• Ability to read and interpret civil plans and specifications
• Understanding of earthwork, utility, and paving operations
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
• Willingness to spend time in the field on active jobsites
• Valid driver’s license

Preferred (Not Required)

• Internship or co-op experience with a civil contractor or engineering firm
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bluebeam, or takeoff software (e.g., AGTEK, Trimble Business Center)
• Familiarity with GPS machine control and surveying concepts
• Exposure to project management or job costing software (e.g., Procore, HCSS, Viewpoint)

Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
