Duration: 6 months from start date, will extend to 18 months

Work Location: Phoenix, AZ

Pay Rate: $65/hr on W2 + 15 PTOs/year + Per Diem as per GSA RAtes

Explain a typical day in the role.:

A typical day for an Assistant Project Manager begins by reviewing project updates, emails, schedules, and outstanding action items to understand the current status of the project and identify any issues that require immediate attention. The APM gathers information from contractors, consultants, designers, vendors, and project team members, ensuring that leadership has an accurate picture of project progress and that any emerging risks are identified early. Much of the role revolves around maintaining situational awareness across multiple aspects of the project, including safety, quality, schedule, budget, procurement, and stakeholder commitments.

Throughout the day, the APM participates in coordination meetings, progress reviews, design discussions, site walks, and planning sessions. During these interactions, they document decisions, track commitments, follow up on action items, and facilitate communication between the various parties involved in project delivery. They often serve as the central point through which information flows, helping ensure that contractors understand project requirements, consultants receive needed information, stakeholders remain aligned, and unresolved issues are escalated to the appropriate decision-makers.

A significant portion of the role is spent reviewing and organizing project documentation. This may include schedules, submittals, requests for information, design documents, change requests, invoices, cost reports, meeting minutes, and status reports. The APM verifies that information is complete and accurate, updates project trackers and dashboards, and maintains records that support project execution and reporting. They continuously monitor progress against key milestones and work to identify trends that could affect project performance.

The role also involves regular observation of ongoing work and project activities. Whether through physical site visits or virtual coordination, the APM assesses progress, identifies obstacles, monitors coordination between teams, and helps ensure that project objectives are being achieved. When challenges arise, the APM works with project stakeholders to gather information, evaluate potential solutions, coordinate follow-up actions, and support implementation of corrective measures.

As the day progresses, the APM prepares reports and summaries for project leadership, highlighting accomplishments, risks, constraints, upcoming decisions, and areas requiring management attention. They spend considerable time ensuring that commitments made during meetings are tracked to completion and that project information remains organized and accessible. Success in the role depends on the ability to manage large amounts of information, maintain strong working relationships, communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, and proactively address issues before they become significant project impacts.

In essence, the Assistant Project Manager serves as the organizational and operational backbone of the project, constantly connecting people, information, and activities to help the project team make informed decisions and successfully deliver the project's objectives.

What is the ideal background of a candidate for this role?:

The ideal candidate has a background in construction management, engineering, architecture, project controls, or owner-side project management, with experience supporting complex design and construction projects. They are highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable coordinating among contractors, consultants, vendors, and project stakeholders. Strong candidates typically have experience with project scheduling, reporting, document control, change management, cost tracking, and meeting coordination, coupled with excellent communication skills and the ability to identify and resolve issues proactively. Experience supporting large capital projects or mission-critical facilities is particularly valuable.

What are unique selling points that would get candidates interested in your role over another?:

This role offers the opportunity to gain owner-side experience on some of the most complex and technologically advanced data center projects in the industry, while working directly alongside experienced leaders responsible for delivering mission-critical infrastructure at global scale.

How will contractor performance be measured?:

Contractor performance will be measured through achievement of project objectives related to safety, quality, schedule, budget, communication, and stakeholder satisfaction. Key indicators include timely completion of assigned deliverables, accuracy and quality of project documentation and reporting, effectiveness in managing risks and action items, responsiveness to project issues, maintenance of project records and trackers, support of project coordination activities, and the ability to proactively identify and resolve problems. Performance should also reflect professionalism, collaboration, adherence to project procedures, and overall contribution to successful project outcomes.
