About the Role
We are working with an established Chicago-area civil construction contractor seeking a hands-on Project Manager to deliver excavation, earthworks, demolition, sitework and underground utility projects.
This role combines project management and commercial responsibility with practical coordination of field operations. You will work closely with superintendents, foremen and office staff to keep jobs moving safely, efficiently and profitably. Scheduling means planning and coordinating trucks, labor, equipment, deliveries and work sequences. Primavera P6 expertise is not required.
Responsibilities
- Manage civil construction projects from handover and mobilization through completion and closeout.
- Coordinate daily and weekly requirements for crews, trucks, hauling, equipment, materials and subcontractors.
- Plan work sequences and short-term look-ahead schedules, adjusting to site conditions, production needs and delivery constraints.
- Review drawings, specifications, scopes and quantities; help resolve field questions with the project team.
- Track job costs, production, material quantities, commitments and progress against budget.
- Identify scope changes, prepare pricing and supporting records, and manage change-order follow-up.
- Coordinate procurement, RFIs, submittals, permits, inspections and project documentation with the relevant team members.
- Maintain clear communication with clients, general contractors, vendors, field teams and leadership.
- Support safe working practices, quality requirements and an organized project closeout.
What We Are Looking For
- Approximately 5-10 years of relevant construction experience, with demonstrated responsibility for managing projects.
- Contractor-side experience in excavation, earthworks, grading, demolition, underground utilities, site development or closely related heavy civil work.
- Practical experience coordinating labor, equipment, trucking and subcontractors.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, quantities, cost control and change orders.
- Clear communication, sound organization and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Proficiency with Excel and common construction documentation or project management software.
- Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related qualification is helpful; equivalent practical construction experience will also be considered.
- Ability to work in person from and travel to projects across Chicagoland.
Compensation
- Base salary of $120,000-$150,000, depending on relevant experience.
- Employer-contributed health insurance, with dependent coverage available.
- Paid time off and paid holidays.
- Company-provided phone.
