Your impact

Jacobs is seeking an experienced Night Safety Inspector to support construction projects during nighttime operations. The successful candidate will serve as a key member of the project team, ensuring that contractors, subcontractors, and project personnel comply with all applicable safety requirements, regulations, and site-specific safety programs.

The Night Safety Inspector will provide field oversight of construction activities, conduct safety inspections and audits, identify hazards, investigate incidents, and collaborate with project stakeholders to foster a strong culture of safety. This position requires a proactive professional capable of working independently in an active construction environment while maintaining the highest standards of safety performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine and comprehensive inspections of construction activities to verify compliance with OSHA regulations, client requirements, and project-specific safety plans.
  • Monitor contractor adherence to approved Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and Safe Work Plans.
  • Verify implementation of required protective measures and safe work practices.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and ensure timely corrective actions are implemented.
  • Stop work when imminent danger situations are identified.
  • Perform daily safety walkthroughs of active construction work areas.
  • Conduct documented safety audits of contractors, subcontractors, equipment, and work operations.
  • Monitor excavation activities, fall protection systems, crane and rigging operations, confined space entry, electrical work, and work zone safety.
  • Review housekeeping, material storage, access control, and site logistics for compliance with established standards.
  • Track and verify closure of safety observations and corrective actions.
  • Review contractor safety documentation and daily pre-task plans.
  • Monitor high-risk activities commonly scheduled during nighttime operations, including roadway closures, utility work, structural repairs, maintenance of traffic, and equipment-intensive work.
  • Coordinate closely with project management and contractor supervision regarding changing site conditions and emerging risks.
  • Verify public safety measures are maintained during night operations.
  • Prepare daily safety reports documenting observations, inspections, audits, incidents, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety meetings, inspections, training verification, and compliance activities.
  • Track project safety metrics and trends.
  • Develop field reports and communicate findings to project leadership and client representatives.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through mentoring, coaching, and engagement with project personnel.
  • Lead or participate in safety stand-downs, awareness campaigns, and special emphasis programs.
  • Support Jacobs' BeyondZero® and client safety initiatives.
  • Encourage continuous improvement through observation and feedback programs.

Here's what you'll need

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible construction safety experience, including field safety inspection and compliance oversight.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA Construction Standards (29 CFR 1926).
  • Experience supporting large construction, infrastructure, utility, transportation, industrial, or facility projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify risks and implement effective mitigation measures.
  • Experience conducting safety audits, investigations, and compliance inspections.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic safety management systems.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to access project sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
  • OSHA 500, OSHA 510, CHST, CSP, ASP, CSHO, or equivalent professional safety certification.
  • Experience with owner-led construction management programs.
