Job Overview
District Veterans Contracting, Inc. (DVC) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Construction Superintendent to oversee field operations on federal construction and design-build projects from mobilization through closeout. DVC currently holds multiple actively awarded federal task orders, and this role will support assigned projects — potentially including the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center (Cape May, NJ) and a U.S. Secret Service design-build training facility (Laurel, MD) — with the ability to shift between active sites as project needs require.
The Superintendent serves as the primary field point of contact between DVC's project management team, subcontractors, and government facility representatives, ensuring work is executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to contract quality standards. On many DVC federal task orders, the Superintendent is also dual-hatted as the project's Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) — candidates should be prepared to hold both roles when assigned.
Duties & Responsibilities
● Oversee daily field operations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, the approved Accident Prevention Plan/Site Safety and Health Plan, and company policy.
● Serve as Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) when dual-hatted, including daily safety briefings, hazard identification, and safety documentation, per EM 385-1-1 and OSHA requirements.
● Manage and maintain project schedules using Primavera P6 and Procore; coordinate field sequencing with the Project Manager to protect the critical path.
● Coordinate subcontractor mobilization, daily activities, and quality of work to ensure conformance with contract drawings and specifications.
● Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, workmanship, and adherence to approved drawings, specifications, and the Quality Control Plan.
● Support the Quality Control Manager with field-level QC checks, inspection documentation, and constructability reviews.
● Prepare and maintain daily quality control/production reports, safety logs, and site documentation required for government record-keeping.
● Assist the Project Manager in preparing cost estimates and tracking field costs, including use of estimating tools where applicable.
● Track and support resolution of RFIs, submittals, and field-driven contract modifications in coordination with the Project Manager.
● Ensure all contract requirements are adhered to and support management of field-driven changes or modifications.
● Provide leadership and day-to-day supervision to field crews and subcontractor trades, fostering a safe, collaborative, and productive site environment.
● Support commissioning, punch-list completion, and final turnover on federal facilities.
Required Qualifications
● Minimum 5+ years of construction superintendent experience, including direct experience on federal or other secure government construction projects.
● Strong understanding of construction management principles — budgeting, estimating, scheduling, and quality control — in a U.S. Government work environment.
● Proficient in Procore, Primavera P6, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
● Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and technical drawings.
● Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and EM 385-1-1 safety requirements applicable to federal construction sites.
● Proven supervisory experience leading diverse field teams and subcontractor trades.
● Strong organizational skills with close attention to detail in scheduling, documentation, and execution.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills for liaising with government representatives, subcontractors, and the DVC project team.
● Ability to complete required background screening and obtain/maintain access authorization to secure federal facilities.
Required Qualifications
● OSHA 30-Hour Certification (required if serving as dual-hatted SSHO).
● Additional safety certifications such as Competent Person – Excavation and Confined Space Entry.
● Prior experience as a Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) on a federal contract.
● Experience with design-build project delivery and coordinating field activities around concurrent design milestones.
Compensation & Benefits
● Salary: $75,000 – $95,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
● 401(k) with employer match up to 4.5%.
● 529 College saving employer match.
● FSA Dependent Care Program.
● Paid time off and parental leave.
● Professional development assistance and tuition reimbursement.
● Company truck and fuel card for field-based travel.
