Construction Superintendent

NOW HIRING: SITE DEVELOPMENT SUPERINTENDENT

Watkins Site Development is seeking an experienced and motivated Site Development Superintendent to oversee daily field operations across our commercial site development and heavy civil construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in grading, earthwork, site preparation, underground utilities, and construction site management.

The Site Development Superintendent will be responsible for coordinating field crews, managing equipment and resources, maintaining project schedules, and ensuring all work meets project specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements. This individual will work closely with project managers, foremen, equipment operators, laborers, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders to keep projects moving efficiently and successfully.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee daily field operations for site development, grading, earthwork, excavation, drainage, and underground utility projects.
• Supervise and coordinate foremen, equipment operators, laborers, and subcontractors to ensure work is completed efficiently and according to project schedules.
• Review construction plans, grading plans, specifications, and site drawings to establish work priorities and communicate project requirements to field crews.
• Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and subcontractors to maintain productivity and minimize downtime.
• Monitor project progress and communicate schedule updates, delays, field conditions, and potential issues to project managers.
• Ensure construction activities comply with approved plans, project specifications, applicable regulations, and company standards.
• Maintain a strong safety culture by conducting site inspections, toolbox talks, and safety meetings and ensuring compliance with OSHA requirements.
• Monitor the quality of grading, soil compaction, drainage installation, erosion control, and other site development activities.
• Identify and resolve field issues, including plan discrepancies, unexpected site conditions, equipment problems, and scheduling conflicts.
• Track daily production, labor hours, equipment utilization, materials, and other project-related information.
• Coordinate inspections, testing, and required approvals with project managers, engineers, inspectors, and other applicable parties.
• Maintain accurate daily reports, jobsite documentation, and records of completed work.
• Monitor equipment condition and coordinate maintenance and repairs as needed.
• Help control labor and equipment costs while maintaining project quality and productivity.
• Ensure job sites remain organized and that environmental protection and erosion control measures are maintained.
• Provide leadership, direction, and accountability to field personnel while promoting teamwork and professional development.

Qualifications and Experience

• Proven experience as a Site Development Superintendent, General Superintendent, Grading Superintendent, or in a similar construction leadership role.
• Strong background in commercial site development, heavy civil construction, grading, earthwork, and excavation.
• Experience overseeing multiple crews, foremen, and subcontractors on active construction sites.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, grading plans, site layouts, and project specifications.
• Knowledge of construction sequencing, site logistics, drainage systems, erosion control, soil compaction, and underground utilities.
• Strong understanding of construction site safety practices and applicable OSHA regulations.
• Experience coordinating schedules, manpower, equipment, materials, and subcontractors.
• Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to identify potential delays and proactively develop solutions to keep projects on schedule.
• Proficiency with construction documentation, daily reports, scheduling tools, and project management software is preferred.
• Valid driver's license and a willingness to travel between project sites as needed.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and respond to changing project demands.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing commercial site development projects from initial site preparation through final grading.
• Familiarity with scheduling and estimating software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
• Experience coordinating with general contractors, engineers, surveyors, inspectors, and project owners.
