What they need
Solar PV Construction Supervisor (Electrical or Mechanical) – Utility-Scale Solar
Location: Houston, TX. The role is office-based, with regular travel to project sites in the Dallas and San Antonio areas and central Texas regions.
Relocation: You must live in the Houston area or be willing to relocate there.
Travel: Frequent. On days you aren't at a project site, you'll work from the Houston office.
Assignment Type: This is a long-term (multi-year) contract assignment with a possibility of going perm at any time throughout the assignment.
About the Opportunity
Our client is a global engineering and construction group with decades of experience building major energy and infrastructure projects. Its solar portfolio in Texas is expanding, and it's hiring supervisors and engineers on two tracks. The Electrical track owns the electrical scope from installation through energization. The Mechanical track owns the structural and mechanical scope, including racking, trackers, and module installation.
Both tracks fit people who can review drawings and designs in the office, then go to the field to inspect work, solve problems, and lead crews. Your time will be split between the Houston office and active solar sites in North and South Texas.
What You'll Do – Both Tracks
- Plan and coordinate field activities on PV sites so installation follows the design package, the schedule, and site safety requirements.
- Manage subcontractors and field crews. That means setting daily priorities, checking workmanship, and keeping teams on scope.
- Review drawings, specifications, and calculations, and raise constructability issues early.
- Track progress, quality, and milestones. When a schedule or quality risk comes up, bring it to project leadership with a proposed solution.
- Carry out inspections and identify corrective actions when issues come up in the field.
- Model a strong safety culture and enforce HSE and quality procedures on site.
- Work closely with the office-based engineering, procurement, and project management teams to resolve technical questions quickly.
- Prepare field reports, punch lists, redlines, and as-built documentation.
Electrical Track – Focus Areas
- Oversee installation of DC and AC collection systems: trenching, cable pulls, combiner boxes, inverters, and pad-mount transformers.
- Support installation, testing, and energization of the project substation. This covers breakers, switchgear, main power transformers, relay and protection packages, and SCADA and communications tie-ins.
- Perform and witness functional testing and commissioning, and assemble turnover packages.
Mechanical Track – Focus Areas
- Supervise installation of piles and driven posts, mounting structures, fixed-tilt racking and single-axis trackers, and PV modules.
- Confirm that structures and trackers are assembled to manufacturer specifications and project standards.
- Verify alignment, torque, structural integrity, and overall installation quality through site inspections.
- Partner with office engineering to improve mechanical designs and construction methods.
What You Bring
- A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- 3–7+ years of experience on solar PV, renewable energy, or comparable industrial construction projects.
- Experience in both field and office engineering environments.
- Proven ability to lead crews and hold subcontractors accountable.
- Strong organization, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Willingness to travel regularly between Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio.
- Fluent English. Spanish or another language is a plus.
Electrical candidates:
- Background in MV and HV substations, protective relaying, and commissioning.
- Comfortable working from one-lines, three-lines, and electrical layouts.
- Working knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE, NFPA 70E, and IEC as they apply.
Mechanical candidates:
- Hands-on experience with PV mounting systems, trackers, and structural components.
- Comfortable interpreting mechanical drawings, layouts, and specifications.
- Familiarity with applicable structural and installation standards (U.S. codes, ISO, Eurocodes, or equivalent).
Nice to Have
- Experience on utility-scale solar projects of 100 MW or larger.
- An OSHA 30, NEBOSH, or equivalent safety certification.
- Experience managing large field crews and several subcontractors at the same time.
- Electrical: SCADA, plant controllers, performance monitoring, or ERCOT interconnection and energization.
- Mechanical: geotechnical and foundation knowledge (piles, driven posts), or CAD and engineering software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
