Vale Clinic, Tunbridge Wells, is looking for an experienced consultant plastic surgeon, currently in private practice, to lead a growing list of cosmetic procedures performed entirely under local anaesthetic.

About the role

Vale Clinic is a boutique surgical clinic in the heart of Royal Tunbridge Wells. We already perform blepharoplasty and the Apex Facelift under local anaesthetic, and demand is growing fast. We now want a second surgeon to broaden our offer across facial, ear and intimate surgery.

Every procedure on our list is performed under local anaesthetic only, with no sedation or general anaesthetic at present. Patients stay awake and comfortable, go home the same day and recover faster.

Sedation and general anaesthetic: We may introduce sedation in the future. We do not have the facilities for general anaesthetic, and there are no overnight stays. Every patient is treated as a day case and goes home the same day.

You will:

• Run your own consultation and operating lists at the clinic, [number] sessions per month to start
• Assess suitability for local-anaesthetic surgery and decline or refer patients who need sedation or GA
• Take full clinical ownership of consent, the cooling-off period, operative notes and follow-up
• Work with our nursing and aftercare team on pre-op preparation and post-op reviews
• Help shape new procedure pathways, pricing and patient information as the service grows

We do not currently offer procedures that need sedation, general anaesthetic or an overnight stay, such as deep-plane facelifts under GA, rhinoplasty, breast augmentation or abdominoplasty. Patients who are not suitable for local anaesthetic will be referred on.

Who we're looking for

You are an established consultant plastic surgeon who is currently working in UK private practice and already operates on patients awake.

Essential

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise, and on the GMC Specialist Register in Plastic Surgery
• Current private practice in cosmetic surgery, with a recent, verifiable record of procedures performed under local anaesthetic
• Experience in both facial surgery and female intimate surgery, including labiaplasty
• Current medical indemnity covering cosmetic surgery, including intimate procedures
• Up-to-date appraisal and revalidation, and an enhanced DBS check
• Membership of BAPRAS and/or BAAPS
• Familiarity with the GMC's guidance for doctors who offer cosmetic interventions, including consent and the cooling-off period
• Willingness to submit outcomes data and take part in clinical governance and audit

Desirable

• Experience with tumescent liposuction and minor skin surgery
• Experience of revision surgery
• A portfolio of before-and-after photos and patient reviews
• Experience working with CQC-registered independent providers
• Interest in growing a local patient base in Kent and Sussex
