About the Role

The client is looking for a Consultant Software Engineer to join our Digital Delivery Service, working within a complex end-client technology ecosystem across a range of applications, platforms and engineering projects.

This role is suited to a mid-level software engineer who is comfortable working across different technology stacks and taking ownership of delivery within a client environment.

You will be employed by the client but embedded within our end-client’s teams and technology landscape. As a result, the role combines strong software engineering capability with a consultative mindset: you’ll be expected to understand the client environment, build effective relationships, communicate clearly with stakeholders, and maintain strong alignment with the client throughout your engagement.

You’ll work across a range of projects and applications, with C#/.NET, React, SQL, AWS and Terraform forming the core engineering foundation. The exact technology mix will vary, so we’re looking for someone with strong engineering fundamentals who can become productive quickly in unfamiliar systems and environments.

You’ll take ownership of features and technical workstreams from requirements and design through to deployment and production support, while contributing to the continuous improvement of both the end-client’s engineering capability and the client’s wider delivery service.

Key Responsibilities

Software Engineering

• Design, develop and maintain modern software applications using C# / .NET and React.
• Build and support REST APIs, backend services and system integrations.
• Develop and maintain relational data solutions using SQL, including PostgreSQL and/or SQL Server.
• Write clean, maintainable and well-tested code.
• Work across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements and technical design through to deployment and production support.
• Take ownership of defined features, integrations or technical workstreams with limited supervision.
• Troubleshoot and resolve application, integration and infrastructure issues.
• Contribute to technical design, code reviews and engineering best practices.
• Identify opportunities to reduce technical debt and improve maintainability, performance and reliability.
• Work across multiple projects and applications, adapting to different architectures, technologies and delivery requirements.

Cloud Engineering & DevOps

• Develop and support cloud-native solutions using AWS.
• Build and maintain infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code principles.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
• Work with relevant AWS services across compute, storage, networking, monitoring, identity and security.
• Support application deployment, configuration and operational readiness.
• Apply appropriate cloud, security and operational best practices.
• Investigate and resolve issues across both application and infrastructure layers.
• Contribute to monitoring, observability and production support activities.

Client Delivery & Consulting

As a Client Consultant, you will represent us while working inside our end-client’s environment.

You’ll be expected to:

• Build effective working relationships with client engineering teams and stakeholders.
• Understand the wider business and technical context behind the work you are delivering.
• Participate in discovery sessions, technical discussions and project workshops.
• Gather and clarify requirements and translate them into practical technical deliverables.
• Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Provide clear progress updates, raise risks and dependencies early, and manage expectations appropriately.
• Demonstrate completed work and explain technical decisions where required.
• Contribute constructively to client discussions while maintaining the client’s standards and ways of working.
• Remain aware that you are representing the client at all times within the end-client environment.

The client Reporting & Engagement

Although you will work closely with end-client teams, you will remain an active member of the client team.

You will be expected to:

• Maintain regular communication with the client leadership and delivery teams.
• Provide clear updates on project progress, priorities, risks and client feedback.
• Play back relevant technical, delivery and stakeholder information from the client environment.
• Escalate concerns, blockers or emerging risks to the client at the appropriate time.
• Share insights and lessons that can improve our wider engineering and consulting capability.
• Contribute to internal knowledge sharing, team discussions and technical sessions.
• Support the client in identifying opportunities where we can add further value to the client.
• Balance client priorities with the client’s wider delivery standards, responsibilities and objectives.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience developing software using C# / .NET.
• Experience building modern front-end applications using React.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and/or SQL Server.
• Practical experience using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
• Hands-on experience developing, deploying or supporting applications within AWS.
• Experience developing RESTful APIs and system integrations.
• Good understanding of Git, CI/CD, automated testing and modern software engineering practices.
• Experience working within Agile delivery teams.
• Ability to independently troubleshoot moderately complex technical issues.
• Experience taking ownership of features or technical deliverables through to completion.
• Ability to work effectively across multiple applications, projects and technology stacks.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
