Join a Growing Recycling Business

WA Container Exchange is a busy Containers for Change refund point based in O'Connor. We provide container collection and recycling services to businesses, schools, charities, community groups and households throughout the Perth area.

We are looking for a reliable and motivated Collection Driver / Warehouse Attendant to join our team.

Driving and customer collections will be the main focus of this position, with the successful candidate spending much of their day on the road completing scheduled container pickups from our commercial and residential customers.

When not completing collections, you will assist our team with container processing, customer service and general warehouse duties at our O'Connor depot.

If you enjoy being out on the road, working independently and having variety in your day, this could be a great opportunity.

About the Role

As a Collection Driver, you will be responsible for completing scheduled container collections across the Perth metropolitan area and safely transporting collected containers back to our O'Connor depot.

You'll be representing WA Container Exchange when visiting our customers, so we're looking for someone who is friendly, professional and dependable.

The role involves regular interaction with businesses, schools, charities and residential customers, as well as physical work including loading and unloading bags and bins of recyclable drink containers.

You'll generally work independently while completing your collection runs, while also being part of a supportive depot team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete scheduled container collection runs throughout the Perth metropolitan area
  • Drive company vehicles safely and responsibly
  • Collect eligible drink containers from businesses, schools, charities, community organisations and residential customers
  • Load and unload bags, bins and containers safely and efficiently
  • Communicate professionally with customers at collection locations
  • Follow planned collection schedules and routes
  • Ensure collections are accurately recorded and completed
  • Maintain the cleanliness and general condition of company vehicles
  • Report vehicle issues, collection problems or customer requests to management
  • Assist with sorting and processing collected containers when returning to the depot
  • Operate container counting and processing equipment when required
  • Assist customers at the refund point during busy periods
  • Perform general warehouse and stock movement duties
  • Follow all workplace health and safety procedures

About You

We're looking for someone who is comfortable spending a large part of their working day driving and can be trusted to manage their collection schedule with minimal supervision.

You'll ideally be someone who is reliable, organised and happy to get stuck into physical work.

To be successful, you will have:

  • A current Australian driver's licence
  • A safe and responsible driving history
  • Confidence driving vans or similar commercial vehicles
  • Excellent reliability and punctuality
  • Good customer service and communication skills
  • The ability to work independently and manage your daily collection run
  • Good organisational and time-management skills
  • A positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • The physical ability to regularly load and unload bags and containers
  • Basic computer and administration skills
  • Good attention to detail
  • A willingness to assist with warehouse duties when required

Desirable – but Not Essential

Experience in any of the following would be highly regarded:

  • Delivery or collection driving
  • Courier or multi-drop driving
  • Commercial collections
  • Warehouse or recycling operations
  • Customer service
  • Forklift Licence (LF)
  • Operating pallet jacks or other warehouse equipment
  • Knowledge of the Containers for Change scheme

Previous recycling experience is not required – full training will be provided to the right person.

What We Offer

  • Competitive casual hourly rates
  • Company vehicle provided for collection runs
  • Variety of work with plenty of time spent out on the road
  • A role where you can work independently without being stuck in one place all day
  • On-the-job training
  • Friendly and supportive team environment
  • Opportunity for additional hours as the business grows
  • A practical and active working environment
  • The opportunity to build relationships with regular commercial and community customers
  • A role contributing directly to recycling and sustainability in Western Australia
